Aegis Functionality

The highspeed underground blast engineering tool by mining engineers for mining engineers. Aegis Designer and Aegis Analyzer have been created to enable your underground drill and blast engineers to design better blasts. Our Designer solution reduces the time required to complete a design package leading to operational cost reduction. Our intuitive, dynamic, design tools allow users to iterate on their designs instead of settling for the first design that comes to mind. The Analyzer blast modelling provides scientific guidance on the best course of action for the execution of better blasts. No longer do blasts have to be designed based on rules of thumb and over generalizations. Start designing better blasts today with Aegis Designer and Analyzer.

Aegis Designer

Aegis Designer is a comprehensive ring design generation tool that allows planners to create and compare stope designs in seconds. With one unified platform, you can create tailored solutions for drill and blast designs, assign costs to processes, and associate predicted fragmentation with a blast.

Dynamic Ring Generation

Lay out your entire stope in seconds using user-defined drilling and blasting parameters.

  • Model several blasts consisting of full or partial rings and slot decks
  • Sequencing and timing can be generated automatically or edited manually
  • Design and pre-sequence slot patterns for simple insertion into the ring pattern
  • Use isosurface meshes to visualize the damage volume around a blast in 3D
  • Visualize and compare different explosives within different patterns
  • Easily compare relationships between drilling/explosive costs, dilution, transportation, mucking and milling costs for different fragmentation profiles

Visual & Intuitive Interface

Navigate quickly and easily with Designer’s modern and intuitive interface. Users spend less time learning the software and more time designing the blast.

  • Visualize and understand the required blast volume in four simultaneous views – plan, section, longitudinal section, and 3D
  • Simple click-and-drag interface allows for interactive graphical or numeric editing of hole and ring geometry
  • Dockable window arrangement supports the use of multi-monitor displays

Block Model Integration

Designer integrates with a geological block model to enhance ring design with dynamic real-time slicing of the block model in multiple views. Planners can consider ore grade while they make design tweaks to rings superimposed on the block model.

Powerful Reporting Tools

Highly customizable report templates and IREDES export allow designs to get to production as seamlessly as possible.

  • Generate professional and data-rich reports that can be reused on any number of patterns, blasts, or scenarios.
  • Powerful template-based reporting with copy/paste support for the Microsoft Office suite.

Aegis Analyzer

Aegis Analyzer is a powerful analysis tool to help you compare several different approaches to the same problem and help get your blast design right the first time.

Aegis Break Analyzer

In addition to Aegis Designer and Analyzer, Aegis Break Analyzer offers an unparalleled utility in blasting pattern design for both underground mining operations and open-cast mining, quarrying, and construction. Break Analyzer incorporates detonation and explosion state analysis, utilizing parameters defined by explosive products, including rock and ore properties, as well as stress attenuation. The utilization of commercial explosives to generate break from blastholes drilled in rock is a chemical-mechanical process governed by the properties of the explosives used and the physics of shock wave motion, propagation, and reflection from open face boundaries. Precision blast pattern design, using peer-reviewed AEGIS Break Analyzer, can generate fragmentation profiles with specific size constraints suitable for material handling by mechanized mucking and haulage equipment.

The AEGIS Break Analyzer is designed to benchmark current blasting practices and provide insight into new patterns and practices. Based on dynamic explosive properties and dynamic rock/ore properties, Break Analyzer matches the explosive detonation state (shock-brisance) and explosion state (gas expansion-heave) energies to maximize ore recoveries and minimize "dilution". As a consequence, target fragmentation is optimized for haulage equipment, potentially mitigating primary crusher requirements and/or reducing the associated costs.

Although AEGIS Break Analyzer utilizes sophisticated mathematical and physical models, its interface is very easy to use. For the Blast Design workflow, a step-by-step process is used that guides the engineer along each stage in the process. Using each calculated solution will help direct the engineer in deciding which blasting pattern to use for varying or changing situations in open-cast or underground mining operations. Break Analyzer also includes several supplementary calculators that can be used to perform very specific calculations or explore different parts of the system.

Furthermore, eLearning videos and documentation resources enable users to determine fragmentation profiles for surface mining operations using KuzRam modeling. The Science of Commercial 'Explosives and Blasting Applications' document provides extensive reference material on all explosive products, ranging from molecular to composite commercial explosives, including the physics and mathematics associated with blast pattern design. Discover how Break Analyzer can be used to quickly calculate precision blast patterns based on the properties of explosives and rock/ore. Gain practical knowledge of blasting practices and applications for all types of mining and construction operations from years of practical experience.

Often, it is convenient to have a reliable source of information at hand without conducting a thorough search. Use AEGIS Break Analyzer to get it right the first time.
