Introduction to the Test Database

The production database in AssayNet LIMS is named LIMS_NNN, where NNN represents a unique three-character alphanumeric site code. For example, a database for ABC Labs would be named LIMS_ABC. This naming convention ensures clarity and helps distinguish production databases across different installations.

The test database, always named LIMS_TST, serves as a sandbox environment for training, developing new methods, and testing calculations. It allows users to experiment freely without affecting the live production environment.

To maintain consistency with the production system, the test database is typically is set to restored each night. This process deletes all changes made during the day and replaces them with the latest records from the production database. As a result, the test environment is refreshed with current data, ensuring that training and testing activities closely reflect real-world conditions.

This separation between production and test databases supports a robust and controlled system for both daily operations and continuous improvement.

To access the test database, follow the steps outlined in the Log in to the AssayNet LIMS activity. For the Database field name, enter LIMS_TST. One of the Ribbon Menu options displays the name of the database you are currently connected to.
