Introduction to the Test Database

The production database in AssayNet LIMS is named LIMS_NNN, where NNN represents a unique three-character alphanumeric site code. For example, a database for ABC Labs would be named LIMS_ABC. This naming convention ensures clarity and helps distinguish production databases across different installations.

The test database, always named LIMS_TST, serves as a sandbox environment for training, developing new methods, and testing calculations. This database allows users to experiment without affecting the production environment. To maintain consistency and safeguard the production system, the test database is typically restored automatically each night. This nightly restoration ensures that any changes made during the day are not saved, providing a clean slate for ongoing development and training. Additionally, the restoration process serves an important role in verifying the integrity of database backup files, ensuring they are reliable and ready for use if needed.

This separation between production and test databases supports a robust and controlled system for both daily operations and continuous improvement.

To access the test database, follow the steps outlined in the Log in to the AssayNet LIMS activity. For the Database field name, enter LIMS_TST. One of the Ribbon Menu options displays the name of the database you are currently connected to.
