Install the LIMS Excel Add-in

This activity explains how to install the AssayNet LIMS Excel Add-in, LIMS64-[YYYYMMDD].xla, where [YYYYMMDD] represents the version number. This add-in allows you to connect Microsoft Excel to your AssayNet LIMS database for automated data transfer and QC results analysis.

The Excel Add-in file is typically found in your LIMS Install folder within your organization’s network files. The most recent version is placed in this folder during the initial implementation. If you are unsure where this folder is located, please contact your IT department or AssayNet for assistance.

New releases are usually distributed to clients by email and can be downloaded from the Datamine Support Portal.

Note: The Add-in installation applies only to the currently logged-in user. Each user who needs access to the LIMS Excel Add-in must complete these installation steps within their own Microsoft Excel profile. Installing the Add-in for one user does not make it available to others on the same machine.

Note: AssayNet LIMS also offers another Excel Add-in that connects to your LIMS database and updates automatically for all users, eliminating the need for each user to manually install new versions. For more information, see Install the Excel Add-in Loader.

These instructions apply to Excel versions 2007 through Office 365.

      The File menu displays.

    2. Click Options.

      The Excel Options screen displays.

    3. Click Add-ins.
    4. In the Manage drop-down list, select Excel Add-Ins and click Go.

      The Add-Ins dialog displays.

    5. Click Browse and navigate to the location of the LIMS64-[YYYYMMDD] file.
    6. Select the file and click OK.
    7. If prompted to copy the file to the local Add-Ins folder, click No.
    8. Click OK to close the Add-ins dialog.
    9. You may need to close Excel for the changes to take effect.

Note: If the Add-In is installed correctly, a new ribbon option called LIMS will appear under the Add-Ins ribbon item. This option is also available in the Excel shortcut (right-click) menu.

  2. Alternatively, you may be able to open the LIMS64-[YYYYMMDD] file directly, which can launch the add-in in a new Microsoft Excel window and temporarily install it for the current user. However, this method is not guaranteed to install the add-in persistently. To ensure proper installation and availability in all future Excel sessions, it is recommended to follow the standard installation steps described above.
