Add an Instrument Run Template

The instrument run template feature in AssayNet LIMS helps create a structured template tailored to your analytical instrument, providing an efficient solution to streamline the instrument run setup. The run template organizes samples, manages auto-positions for instruments with autosamplers, and incorporates control and calibration standards.

This activity describes how to create a new Run Template, including all available options for adding samples and quality control components, and different methods to position quality control components within the template.

Activity Steps

  1. On the Profile ribbon tab, click Run Templates.

    The Run Templates screen displays.

  2. On the menu, click New.

    The Add Template screen displays.

  3. Complete the following fields as needed:

    1. Analysis Code—A unique name for the analysis. If the name already exists, an error message indicates the duplication.
    2. Analysis Method
    3. Template Name
    4. Description
    5. Use Original AutoSampler Position for Replicates—Defines how samples and all quality control components, including replicates, are positioned in the autosampler.
  4. Click OK.
  5. To create the template structure:

    1. Select the Template Name and click Setup.

The Instrument Run Template screen displays.

    2. To add samples to the template:

      1. Set the Analysis Type to Sample to define sample positions in the template. These samples come from the sample batch and are inserted into the run job template as Sample 1, Sample 2, and so on.
      2. Click the Add Analysis icon to add the sample to the template builder.
      3. Repeat steps b 1-2 to add more samples.
    3. To add sample duplicates:

Note: Duplicate samples might already exist in the sample list, because they could have been added at the laboratory job level. If duplicate samples are part of the instrument control process and should only be included at the instrumental analysis level, follow these steps.

      1. Set the Analysis Type to Duplicate.
      2. In the template builder, click the column next to the Line column and select the sample for duplication.
      3. With the sample selected, click the Add Analysis icon to create the duplicate.
      4. Repeat steps c 2-3 to add duplicates for multiple samples.
    4. To add blank quality control samples:

Note: Blanks might already exist in the sample list. If they are part of the instrument control process and should only be included at the instrumental analysis level, follow these steps.

      1. Set the Analysis Type to Blank.
      2. In the template builder, click the column next to the Line column and select the row where you want to add the blank.
      3. Click the Add Analysis icon to insert the blank into the template builder.
      4. Repeat steps e 1-2 to add multiple blanks.
    5. To add calibration standards:

      1. Set the Analysis Type to Standard to include a calibration standard.
      2. Select the Type and Sample.
      3. In the template builder, click the column next to the Line column and select the row where you want to add the calibration standard.
      4. Click the Add Analysis icon to insert the standard.
      5. Repeat steps e 1-3 to add multiple calibration standards.
  6. To modify an analysis type in the template:

    1. In the template builder, click the column next to the Line column and select the analysis type you want to modify.
    2. Click the Edit Analysis icon.
    3. In the Edit Run Template Analysis screen, enter the required values:
      1. Auto Position—Defines the sample's placement in the instrument when loaded.
      2. Auto Dilution—Specifies the dilution applied for the final result.
      3. Label—A numeric or alphanumeric identification label.
    4. To offset the position dynamically, select one of the following options from Offset category group. Enter the required number in the corresponding fields. To offset QC samples from the end, use negative numbers.
      • None
      • From Current Position
      • From Beginning of Run
      • From End of Run
    5. Click OK.
  7. To restrict the template by instrument:

Note: The default setting All Instruments applies the run template to all instruments.

    1. Select Selected Instruments to limit the template to specific instruments.
    2. Click the three-dot icon.

The Run Template Instruments screen displays.

    3. Select the instruments from the Available Instruments list.
    4. Click the Add Instrument icon to move selected items to the Selected Instruments list.
    5. Click Close.
  8. To delete a template:

Note: Before you delete a template, remove all existing samples and quality control components from the Instrument Run Template screen.

    1. Click Setup.
    2. The Instrument Run Template screen displays.
    3. Click the Remove All icon to clear the template.
    4. Click Close.
