Load a Series
A sample series is a collection of sample IDs that correspond to batches routinely submitted by clients. The sample series eliminates the need for manual entry of samples with each batch. Upon loading, the sample series is ready for processing; it has the analysis package assigned and comes with the corresponding export configuration. This setup streamlines the batch processing workflow, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
This activity presumes that a sample series is saved in the AssayNet LIMS. For information on how to save a new sample series, see Add a Sample Batch.
Activity Steps
- On the Job Book, click Sample Batches.
-
Click New.
The Add Sample Batches screen displays.
-
Click Load » Series.
The Sample Series screen displays.
-
Select Series.
The samples in the series display in the Selected Samples list.
- To filter the series, select the Client and/or Project.
-
Enter a Prefix if required; for example, B-.
-
Enter a Suffix if required.
Note: The prefix and suffix are temporarily added to all the samples in the series and only added to the samples after the series is loaded.
-
Update the Sampled Date if required.
-
Update the Sampled Time if required.
-
Make a temporary modification to the series name and project:
-
Click the Edit Series icon.
The Edit Series screen displays.
-
Update the Series name if required.
-
Select a Project ID if required.
-
Click OK.
-
- To remove samples that have not been submitted from the Selected Samples list:
- Select the sample.
- Click the left arrow to move the sample to the Available Samples list.
- Click the left arrow with a blue line to move all samples to the Available Samples list.
- To modify samples in the Selected Sample list:
- Select the sample.
Click the Edit Sample icon.
The Edit Series Sample screen displays.
Complete the following fields as required:
Sample ID
- Sample Date
Time
Sample Type—For example, Rock or Pulp. Default: The sample type associated with the Project.
Prep Code—Default: The preparation code associated with the Project.
Sample Location
Note: Sample Location is an export configuration option in the AssayNet LIMS. However, not all projects are configured to utilize this feature, hence, not all samples will have an associated sample location. For projects that are set up to export using the sample location, this information is loaded into the sample when a series is created.
Custom Field
Note: Custom Fields are tailored to each client based on their specific requirements. Within the custom field group, there can be multiple fields; for example, Batch Number or Project Number.
Select whether to Copy All. If checked it copies the value enter in the custom field to all samples in the Selected Samples list.
Select the required product in the Products field group.
Note: This modification applies only to the current series. The products for the samples are determined based on the sample type. By default, the sample type is linked to the associated project.
- Select a N.C.S if required. Click the right arrow to assign it to the series.
- Click OK.
-
To link multiple series together:
Note: Multiple series can occasionally be linked for analysis purposes. Even when all series are loaded at the sample batch level, they will still form distinct batches. This separation is beneficial for reporting purposes. Loading an instrument run with different analysis codes simultaneously is generally discouraged, as it may lead to conflicts during the reporting phase. However, when using this option, all series and their corresponding analysis codes are kept separate to ensure clarity and prevent potential conflicts.
-
Select Series in the Sample Series screen.
-
Click the right arrow in the window below Sampled Time. The new series is entered below the original series.
-
Repeat this process to add multiple series.
-
Click OK.
-
- Click OK in the Sample Series screen.
- Click OK in the Edit Sample Batch screen.
