Create Analytes

This activity describes how to create and configure analytes, which represent the parameters to be measured—such as elements, compounds, physical characteristics (for example, Mass), or other types of data (for example, Dates). Analytes are grouped with units and methods in analyte schemes, which together form the smallest unit of analytical work in AssayNet LIMS. Each scheme is defined based on the nature of the analyte—whether it represents a measurable quantity for an element, a compound or a reference characteristic.

Most commonly used analytes are pre-configured or added during the initial system implementation. Before you create a new analyte, always check the existing list.

This activity presumes that the corresponding Analyte Type already exists. In most cases, common analyte types such as Metals, Non-Metals, and Physical Characteristics are pre-configured in the system.

Activity Steps

  1. On the Profile ribbon tab, under the Analysis group, click Analytes.

    The Analyte screen displays.

  2. To check if the analyte you need already exists:
    1. In the Analyte screen, browse the list.
    2. Select the Analyte Type to narrow down the results and find the analyte.
  3. To create a new analyte, click New and complete the following fields:
    • Analyte Type
    • Symbol
    • Name
  4. Click OK.
