Add and Set up Reference Material (CRMs)

Activity Steps

  1. On the QC / QA ribbon tab, click Reference Material.

    The Reference Material screen displays.

  2. To add a new reference material:
    1. Click New.

      The Add Reference Standard screen displays.

    2. Complete the following fields as required:

      • Type—For example, Bullion, Reference Material, Internal Standard.

      • Name

      • Description

      • Date of Use

      • Weight / Vol—Enter either the volume or weight for the sample.

      • Units

      • Target Wt— Sets the target weight for inventory management. This option is currently unavailable.

      • Vendor

    3. In the Report field group, set how the CRM displays in the report.

      • Always—Always shows in the report.

      • For Accepted Values Only—The CRM reports if the result is within the accepted value.

      • Never—Not reported.
    4. Select whether the CRM is Active.
    5. Click OK.
  3. To add control limits:
    1. Select the CRM.
    2. On the menu, click Setup » Control Limits.

      The Reference Standard Analytes screen displays.

    3. Click New.

      The Add Standard Analyte screen displays.

    4. Complete the following fields as required:

      • Analyte Type—For example, MET(metals), NMET(non metals).

      • Analyte—For example Au, Ag, Cu.

      • Units

      • Calculate with Run Units—If selected, AssayNet LIMS uses the units for the run, instead of the selected Units.

        Accepted Value

      • Confidence Level

      • Flag Value—Percentage value at which the CRM result would be flagged.

    5. In the Display Format field group, select how to display the result and enter the value as required. Select from:

      • Decimals
      • Significant Figures
      • From Measured Value—Based on the precision of the original measurement.

        Note: The options to the right of the Display Format field group can be left as default.

    6. Select whether to Use Levels. If checked, the control levels are used to flag the CRM material result.

      • High Control Level—The result is highlighted yellow between the high control and the high warning level.

      • High Warning Level—The result is highlighted green between the high warning level and the accepted value.

      • Low Warning Level—The result is highlighted green between the low warning level and the accepted value.

      • Low Control Level—The result is highlighted yellow between the low control and the low warning level.

        Note: Highlighted results appear after the result is approved.

    7. To create multiple analytes from the same screen:
      1. Press Ctrl+N.

        The previous data entries are temporarily saved. The Analyte field is selected for editing.

      2. Update the fields as required.
    8. Click OK.
    9. Click Close.
    10. To update results for new analyte:

      Note: When adding a new analyte to an existing reference material and there are results for analyte schemes that uses this analyte, you must update the QC for completed analyses in order to obtain the results in the control charts in the Excel Add-In. The options Use for QC and Check for Results must be selected in the analysis scheme.

      1. Select Update QC Results for Completed Analysis.

      2. Click the Update icon.

      3. Click OK.

        A warning message displays that updating the QC database will take some time.

      4. Click OK to proceed.
  4. To select an analysis code:

    Note: The analysis code allows you to input the Target Initial Measurement, Allowable Variance, and Target Final Measurement when utilizing reference materials during pre-analysis.

    1. Select the reference standard and click Setup » Analysis Code.

      The Standard Analysis Codes screen displays.

    2. Select the analysis code from the Available Analysis Codes list.

    3. Click the Add Code icon to add the analysis code to the Selected Analysis Code list.

    4. Click the Edit Client Package icon.

      The Edit Standard Analysis Code screen displays.

    5. Enter values for the following fields as required:

      • Target Initial Measurement
      • Allowable Variance
      • Target Final Measurement
    6. Select whether to Allow Weight 1 and/or Allow Weight 2.

    7. Click OK.

    8. Repeat steps 4 a-g to add multiple analysis codes.

    9. Click Close.

  5. To replace the reference standard:

    Note: This option lets you select a reference standard and choose another one to replace it. The system will then automatically update all templates where the selected standard is used.

    1. Select the reference standard and click Setup » Find and Replace.

      The Replace Reference Standard screen displays.

    2. Find the new reference material:

      • Select the Type.

      • Select the Reference Material.

    3. Click OK.

      AssayNet LIMS displays a warning message with the names of the template or templates where the selected standards exists and prompts you to confirm the change.

      Important: This action cannot be undone.

    4. Click OK to replace all templates.

      AssayNet LIMS displays a success message.

    5. Click OK.
