Add and Set up a Calibration Standard

Calibration standards come in two forms: primary standards, bought directly or with known analyte concentrations for direct entry into AssayNet LIMS, and secondary standards, created from primary standards by adding known amounts of one or more. AssayNet LIMS calculates secondary analyte concentrations from entered weights or volumes, which is especially helpful for labs crafting their own secondary standards.

Activity Steps

Note: To create a calibration standard, you first need to define a calibration standard type; for example, internal standard or AA standard. For more information, see Add a Calibration Standard Type.

  1. To add a calibration standard:
    1. On the QC/QA ribbon tab, click Calibration Standards.

      The Calibration Standards screen displays.

    2. On the menu click New.

The Add Calibration Standard screen displays.

    3. Complete the following fields as required:

      • Type

      • Standard

      • Weight / Vol

      • Unit

      • Vendor

      • Date of Use

      • Lot Number

      • Solvent

    4. Set the calibration standard as a Primary or Secondary.

    5. Click OK.
  2. To configure a primary calibration standard:

Note: By default, Primary is checked. You can filter by calibration standard type.

    1. Select the primary calibration standard from the list.
    2. On the menu, click Setup.

The Primary Calibration Standard Analytes screen displays.

    3. Select the analyte type in Library to find the analyte to configure; for example, MET(metals), NMT (non-metals).

    4. Select the Analyte from the list.

    5. Complete the following fields as required.

      • Unit

      • Decimals

      • Accepted Value

      • C.R.—Confidence Range.

      • C.L.—Confidence Level.

    6. Click the Add Analyte icon to create the analyte in the calibration standard.
    7. Repeat steps d-f to create all analytes in the calibration standard.
    8. Click Close.
  3. To configure a secondary calibration standard:

Note: Secondary standards are created by combining different primary standards in various dilutions. AssayNet LIMS calculates the resulting analyte concentrations.

    1. Set the type of calibration standard to Secondary.

    2. Select the secondary calibration standard from the list.

    3. Click Setup.

The Secondary Calibration Standard Analytes screen displays.

    4. Select the primary calibration standard from the Standard list. Use Standard Type to filter the standard.

    5. Enter a Volume. The dilution volume to be used to create the secondary standard.

    6. Click the Add Analyte icon to add the primary standard to the secondary standard composition list.

    7. Repeat steps d-f for all primary standards that make up the new secondary standard.

    8. Click Close.
