Offline working

Sample Tracking is built for sites with no signal. Loaded submittals, collected samples, and edits are held on the device, and are sent to AssayNet LIMS in one action when a connection returns.

Sample Login works differently. It checks every scan against AssayNet LIMS as the scan happens, so it requires a connection.

What happens when the device is offline

  • The message Offline mode displays, with a reminder that changes stay on the device.

  • Scanning, editing samples, setting custom field values, and adding Non-Conformance Sample (NCS) codes continue as normal.

  • Submittals that are already on the device remain available. New submittals cannot be loaded, because loading reads them from the server.

  • In Sample Login, the Insert, Batch, and Submit buttons are unavailable, and a status bar displays with a Retry action.

Starting the application offline

When the device has no connection as the application starts, the No connection message displays and sign-in is skipped. The Sample Tracking workspace opens with the data already held on the device. This also applies when Sample Login is set as the default app, because Sample Login cannot validate scans without a connection.

Protecting work that has not been sent

The application prevents actions that would discard collected work.

  • Logging out is blocked while work on the device has not been sent, which keeps field work linked to the user who captured it. To leave the session anyway, tap Log out without sending.

  • Clearing local data is blocked while work on the device has not been sent.

  • Tapping SAVE while offline reports that the changes are safe on the device and can be sent when a connection is available.

When the device is back in range, send the work. See Send Sample Tracking changes to AssayNet LIMS.
