Create an entity with organisation or laboratory scope and link to it from another entity

Use this activity to create an entity with organisation or laboratory scope, often referred to as 'org-scope' or 'lab-scope', and link to it from another entity.

Note: This activity presumes you have security rights to create an entity using the selected CCLAS application.

This activity demonstrates that org-scope entities can only link to org-scope entities, and that lab-scope entities can link to either org-scope or lab-scope entities.

Activity Steps

1. Access any CCLAS application that configures basic entities, for example, the CCINGP—Instrument Group application.

   The search screen of the application displays.

2. To create an entity with org-scope:
   1. Click New.

      The create screen of the application displays.

   2. Check Organisation Scope.
   3. Continue to specify the new entity, ensuring details are entered into mandatory fields.
   4. CheckIs Active to activate the entity.
   5. Click Submit.

      The entity is created with org-scope.

3. To create an entity with lab-scope:
   1. Click New.

      The Create screen of the application displays.

   2. Uncheck Organisation Scope.
   3. Continue to specify the new entity, ensuring details are entered into mandatory fields.
   4. Check Is Active to activate the entity.
   5. Click Submit.

      The entity is created with lab-scope.

To link to the new entities from an entity of a different entity type:

1. Access another CCLAS application whose associated entities can link to the type of entity you have just created, for example, the CCSCHM—Scheme application.

   The search screen of the application displays.

2. To link an org-scope entity to another org-scope entity:
   1. On the search screen, select the Scope as Organisation only.
   2. Click Submit.

      Org-scope entities that match the criteria display in the grid.

   3. Open one of the org-scope entities returned from the search.

      The details screen of the application displays.

   4. Locate the field on the screen that links to the entity you created previously, for example, the Instrument Group Code field on the Details tab of the CCSCHM—Scheme application.
   5. Access the drop-down list.

      Only org-scope entities display in the list.

   6. Locate and select the org-scope entity you previously created.
   7. Click Submit.

      The current org-scope entity is linked successfully to the org-scope entity that you previously created.

3. Attempt to link an org-scope entity to a lab-scope entity:
   1. On the search screen, select Scope as Organisation only.
   2. Click Submit.

      Org-scope entities that match the criteria display in the grid.

   3. Open one of the org-scope entities returned from the search.

      The details screen of the application displays.

   4. Locate the field on the screen that links to the entity you created previously, for example, the Instrument Group Code field on the Details tab of the CCSCHM—Scheme application.
   5. Access the drop-down list.

      Lab-scope entities do not display in the list.

   6. Click the link on the field prompt or right-click and select Lookup to access the entity search application.

      The search screen of the lookup application displays.

   7. On the lookup search screen, select Scope as Laboratory only.
   8. Click Submit.

      Lab-scope entities that match the criteria display in the grid.

   9. Locate and select the lab-scope entity you previously created, and select the Return the grid row row flow option.

      The lookup entity is selected and its code is displayed in the field from where the lookup was initiated.

   10. Click Submit.

       An error is returned indicating that the linked entity does not exist in scope or is inactive. In this case, the lookup lab-scope entity does not exist in scope of the org-scope entity which is being updated.

4. To link a lab-scope entity to another lab-scope entity:
   1. On the search screen, select the Scope as Laboratory only.
   2. Click Submit.

      Lab-scope entities that match the criteria display in the grid.

   3. Open one of the lab-scope entities returned from the search.

      The details screen of the application displays.

   4. Locate the field on the screen that links to the entity you created previously, for example, the Instrument Group Code field on the Details tab of the CCSCHM—Scheme application.
   5. Access the drop-down list.

      Both org-scope and lab-scope entities display in the list.

   6. Locate and select the lab-scope entity you previously created.
   7. Click Submit.

      The current lab-scope entity is linked successfully to the lab-scope entity that you previously created.

5. To link a lab-scope entity to an org-scope entity:
   1. On the search screen, select the Scope as Laboratory only.
   2. Click Submit.

      Lab-scope entities that match the criteria display in the grid.

   3. Open one of the lab-scope entities returned from the search.

      The details screen of the application displays.

   4. Locate the field on the screen that links to the entity you created previously, for example, the Instrument Group Code field on the Details tab of the CCSCHM—Scheme application.
   5. Access the drop-down list.

      Both org-scope and lab-scope entities display in the list.

   6. Locate and select the org-scope entity you previously created.
   7. Click Submit.

      The current lab-scope entity is linked successfully to the org-scope entity that you previously created.
