Activating and Deactivating Jobs and Samples

Overview

Before analysis can start on a job, the job must be activated. Only activated jobs are returned from a job search for batching and workbook.

Manual activation of jobs or samples is used to set delays for analysis, allowing the job to fit in with the laboratory's testing volumes and priorities.

Manual deactivating of samples effectively places the samples on hold for batching.

Once a job is activated and has result in it, the job cannot be de-activated, however, the job can be cancelled.

Once a sample is activated, the sample can be deactivated. to move it back into a holding state for batching.

Process

Job Activation

Activation only applies to production, internal, proposal, template and laboratory-batch jobs.

  • Production, internal, proposal and template jobs are activated manually using the CCREGN—Job Update application.
  • Laboratory-batch jobs are activated automatically upon registration.
  • Schedule and draft jobs cannot be activated but remain with a Workflow Status of Registered.

Activation of a job proceeds only where the job has a Workflow Status of Registered.

Activate a job

Upon job activation:

  • The job's Workflow Status is set to Not Started, its Last Activated Date is stamped, and Activated By is set to the current user.
  • The cascade engine is called to re-evaluate workflow statuses from sample scheme analyte level, up the production tree.
  • The event is audited.

The AUTO_ACTIVATE_JOBS application preference controls whether jobs are activated automatically when a sample group is first expanded for the job.

Sample Activation

Activation only applies to samples within production, internal, proposal, template and laboratory-batch jobs.

  • Samples within production, internal, proposal and template jobs are activated automatically when the job is activated.
  • Laboratory-batch samples are activated automatically upon registration.
  • Samples within production, internal, proposal and template jobs are activated manually using the CCREGN—Job Update application, from the Samples tab, or CCSAMP—Sample Update application.
  • Schedule and draft samples cannot be activated but remain with a Workflow Status of Registered.

Activation of a sample proceeds only where the job is already activated and the sample has a Workflow Status of Registered.

Activate samples

Upon sample activation:

  • The sample's Workflow Status is set to Not Started, its Last Activated Date is stamped, and Activated By is set to the current user.
  • The cascade engine is called to re-evaluate workflow statuses from sample scheme analyte level, up the production tree.
  • The event is audited.

Sample Deactivation

Deactivation only applies to samples within production, internal, proposal and template jobs.

  • Samples within production, internal, proposal and template jobs are deactivated manually using the CCREGN—Job Update application, from the Samples tab, or CCSAMP—Sample Update application.

Deactivation of a sample proceeds only where:

  • The sample has a Workflow Status of Not Started.
  • The sample does not belong to a cancelled job.
  • The sample has not been included in a laboratory-batch job, that is, once analysis has started, deactivation is no longer possible. Once the analysis on a sample is started, the sample must be brought to some conclusive analytical state, that is, it must be set to listed but not received, or its tests must contain results or be set to insufficient sample, not analysed or not required.

Deactivate samples

Upon sample deactivation:

  • The sample's Workflow Status is set to Registered, its Last Activated Date is cleared, and Activated By is cleared.
  • The cascade engine is called to re-evaluate workflow statuses from sample scheme analyte level, up the production tree.
  • The event is audited.

Impact

Where a job is not activated, its samples do not return from a sample search for batching in the CCBTCH—Job Batch application.

Where a job is not activated, its samples are read-only in the CCWKOP—Open Workbook application, for any workbook entry mode.

Where the laboratory's Update Job Invoices Upon Activation is selected, then samples and tests in the job are added automatically to all associated job invoices.
