Configuring Automatic Preparation and Miscellaneous Scheme Completion

Miscellaneous schemes—There is a preference (AUTO_CASCADE_MISC) as of release 2025-r1, that allows for the sample scheme to be considered by the cascade engine. It is important to consider which option to enable for the lab in support of laboratory validation workflow.

Preparation schemes—These sample schemes are considered by the cascade engine, but since they have no analytes, a result entry cannot trigger sample scheme completion, so can potentially hold up a sample from becoming completed. Therefore it is important to complete them so that samples can become completed and that the sample scheme can be invoiced and costed.

Both preparation and miscellaneous sample schemes are marked as started or completed for a job scheme or for all job schemes of job, either:

Preparation and miscellaneous sample schemes are started or completed automatically by setting application preferences and/or actions on sample portion locations:

  • The AUTO_COMPLETE_PREP application preference controls whether a cascade is performed to determine a sample's Workflow Status, and one of its analytical preparation or analytical sample schemes has a Workflow Status of Started, whether the Workflow Status of any related sample scheme, where the scheme's Scheme Type is Sample Preparation, is set to Completed if it is not already completed.
  • The AUTO_COMPLETE_MISC application preference controls whether a cascade is performed directly to a job's Workflow Status as Started if it was not already started, whether the Workflow Status of any related job scheme and sample scheme, where the scheme's Scheme Type is Miscellaneous, is set to Completed if it is not already completed.
  • The AUTO_CASCADE_MISC application preference controls whether a cascade is performed to determine a sample's Workflow Status. If this preference is set to True, then the sample scheme status rolls up to the sample status. If the preference value is false, then sample scheme status does not roll up to the sample status.
