Configuring a Laboratory for Job Costing

Overview

A laboratory has various settings to configure job costing and client invoicing.

Process

Laboratories are configured using the CCLBRT—Laboratory application, accessed using the System Setup » Laboratories menu option.

The following configurations on the laboratory are required to generate job costs.

Configure job costing details for a laboratory

Currency

When a job cost is created, then it is linked to the job, laboratory's Currency, and most relevant price book based on the laboratory's Price Catalogue Group.

Note: This currency is the same currency used to generate client invoices. Refer to Configuring a Laboratory for Invoicing.

Price Catalogue Group

When a job cost is created then the Price Book defaults to the first price book that matches the job's Date Received and the job cost's Currency, found by searching all price catalogues in the laboratory's Costing Price Catalogue Group, ordered by position within the group, and by searching all price books within those price catalogues, ordered by the price book's Identifier; empty if none exist.

Costing of QC Samples

Where the laboratory's Include Duplicates in Costs flag is checked, when sample is created with a Primary Analytical Type of Duplicate, then the sample's Include in Costs flag is checked by default.

Where the laboratory's Include Replicates in Costs flag is checked, when sample is created with a Primary Analytical Type of Replicate, then the sample's Include in Costs flag is checked by default.

Where the laboratory's Include Blanks in Costs flag is checked, when sample is created with a Primary Analytical Type of Blank, then the sample's Include in Costs flag is checked by default.

Where the laboratory's Include Standards in Costs flag is checked, when sample is created with a Primary Analytical Type of Standard, then the sample's Include in Costs flag is checked by default.

Where the laboratory's Include Spikes in Costs flag is checked, when sample is created with a Primary Analytical Type of Spike, then the sample's Include in Costs flag is checked by default.

Job Cost Templates

When an estimate job cost is created, then the document is created using the laboratory's Cost Estimate Report Template.

When a work-in-progress job cost is created, then the document is created using the laboratory's Cost WIP Report Template.
