Maintaining Hazards for Standard Use

A hazard is a substance that has the potential to damage the health of a person or the environment and therefore needs to have specific handling and disposal instructions.

Products, Standards and Methods are linked to hazards to highlight where care is required.

Hazard Scope

Hazards are created either with org-scope or lab-scope. An organisation or laboratory can contain multiple hazards. Hazards are configured for standards and products.

Properties of a Hazard

A hazard can have:

  • A hazard category—Used to scope the hazard, and allows a hazard level category to be selected.
  • A disposal method, label text and special instructions.

Use of Hazards in Standards

Standards are linked to hazards so that blank, standard and spike QC samples can link to the hazards through their linked standard, for custom queries and reporting purposes. Hazardous substances are labelled to make it apparent that the substance needs consideration when it is managed.
