Configure a standard QC Type to be Assessed also as a Duplicate or Replicate

Use this activity to configure a standard QC type to be assessed also as a duplicate or replicate.

First set up a QC type for the standard QC samples, for example:

  • QC Type Code: LAB_STANDARD
  • Analytical Type: STANDARD
  • Secondary Analytical Type: N/A
  • Linked QC Type Code: --

Then set up another QC type for the duplicate/replicate relationship between the pairs of standard QC samples:

  • QC Type Code: STANDARD_REP
  • Analytical Type: STANDARD
  • Secondary Analytical Type: REPLICATE
  • Linked QC Type Code: LAB_STANDARD

Then when configuring a QC mask to add QC samples to a stream of samples, and the QC mask contains a standard placement:

  • Analytical Type: STANDARD
  • QC Type Code: LAB_STANDARD
  • ...
  • Number to Apply: 2
  • Secondary QC Type Code: STANDARD_REP

Then when the QC mask is used on a stream of samples, at the point that this placement is processed, each placement creates two standard QC samples, each with a Primary Analytical Type of Standard and a Primary QC Type of LAB_STANDARD, but the second standard QC sample also has a Secondary Analytical Type of Replicate, a secondary QC type of STANDARD_REP, and are associated with the first standard QC sample.

When each standard QC sample obtains a result:

  • The results of each standard QC sample undergo standard assessment to set the Standard Status of each standard QC sample.
  • If the LAB_STANDARD QC type is associated with a QC script then at the end of the standard assessment, that script is run to perform any additional standard assessment rules.

and after standard assessment:

  • The results of the first and second standard QC samples undergo precision assessment as replicates to set the Precision Status of the second standard QC sample.
  • If the STANDARD_REP QC type is associated with a QC script then at the end of each precision assessment, that script is run to perform any additional precision assessment rules.
