Maintaining Lines of Business for a Laboratory
Overview
A line of business (LOB) is the arena in which a laboratory operates and classifies the industries service by the laboratory, for example, CTS (consumer testing), OGC (oil and gas) or MIN (mineral).
A laboratory can be associated with multiple lines of business to restrict the visibility a user has to org-scope schemes, products, biofields and price codes, by laboratory. For example, a minerals laboratory does not want information on how to test toys or agricultural products.

Using Lines of Business
When a line of business is associated with a laboratory, there are impacts on the visibility of schemes, products, biofields and price codes.
If a line of business is removed from a laboratory, there is no effect on org-scope schemes that are already enabled for laboratory use.
Effect of Line of Business upon visibility of Schemes
Where an org-scope scheme is linked, optionally, to a line of business that is associated with the current laboratory, then the org-scope scheme is viewable by users within that laboratory, and may be enabled for use within that laboratory for registration on samples. Otherwise, the scheme is hidden for use. This allows for a limited list of org-scope schemes for a laboratory, based on what type of analysis the laboratory does.
Until a laboratory is linked to one or more lines of business, all org-scope schemes associated with a line of business are hidden to the laboratory's users.
Note that, an org-scope scheme does not have to be associated with a line of business, in which case, the scheme is visible to users across all laboratories.
Effect of Line of Business upon visibility of Products
Where an org-scope product is linked to a line of business that is associated with the current laboratory, then the org-scope product is viewable by users within that laboratory, and may be enabled for use within that laboratory for registration on samples. Otherwise, the product is hidden for use. This allows for a limited list of org-scope products for a laboratory, based on what types of samples the laboratory analyses.
Until a laboratory is linked to one or more lines of business, all org-scope products associated with a line of business are hidden to the laboratory's users.
Effect of Line of Business upon visibility of Biofields
Where an org-scope biofield is linked, optionally, to a line of business that is associated with the current laboratory, then the org-scope biofield is viewable by users within that laboratory, and may be enabled for use within that laboratory for registration on samples. Otherwise, the biofield is hidden for use. This allows for a limited list of org-scope biofields for a laboratory, based on what types of analysis the laboratory analyses.
Until a laboratory is linked to one or more lines of business, all org-scope biofields associated with a line of business are hidden to the laboratory's users.
Note that, an org-scope biofield does not have to be associated with a line of business, in which case, the scheme is visible to users across all laboratories.
Effect of Line of Business upon visibility of Price Codes
Where an org-scope price code is not linked to any org-scope scheme or analyte, then the price code is viewable by users within the organisation's laboratories.
Where an org-scope price code is linked to an org-scope scheme or analyte, then the price code is viewable by users within a laboratory, but only where the scheme is enabled for use by that laboratory.
