Completing Preparation and Miscellaneous Job Schemes
Sample Preparation schemes—These sample schemes are considered by the cascade engine, but since they have no analytes, a result entry cannot trigger sample scheme completion, so can potentially hold up a sample from becoming completed. Therefore it is important to complete them so that samples can become completed and that the sample scheme can be invoiced and costed.
Miscellaneous schemes—There is a preference (AUTO_CASCADE_MISC) as of release 2025-r1, that allows for the sample scheme to be considered by the cascade engine. It is important to consider which option to enable for the lab in support of laboratory validation workflow.
Since sample preparation and miscellaneous schemes do not have analytes, a related sample scheme can only have a Workflow Status of Not Started,
Both preparation and miscellaneous sample schemes are marked as started or completed for a job scheme or for all job schemes of job, either:
- Manually via this process
- Automatically by configuring it to do so via the:
- Configuring Automatic Preparation and Miscellaneous Scheme Completion process to configure automatic completion for preparation and/or miscellaneous sample schemes
- Maintaining Jobs and Maintaining Samples processes to configure automatic validation for a specific job or sample
- Maintaining Locations process to configure automatic start or completion for preparation and miscellaneous sample schemes as soon as a related sample portion is moved to a specific location.
When a userchanges a job scheme's Workflow Status for a job scheme that has no analytes:
- Where the job scheme's Workflow Status is moving from or to Completed, the user must be a member of the user group denoted by the associated section's Validate Result User Group Code for the action to proceed.
- Where if the job scheme's Workflow Status is moving from or to Released, the user must be a member of the user group denoted by the associated section's Release Result User Group Code for the action to proceed.
- Where the job scheme's Workflow Status is moving from or to Started or Not Started, the user must be a member of the user group denoted by the associated section's Access User Group Code for the action to proceed.
When a preparation or miscellaneous sample scheme is completed manually or automatically, its Workflow Status is set to Completed and its Validated Date is stamped.
