Maintaining Multi-capacity Container Types for Containerisation

A multiple container type denotes a type of vessel used to store multiple single portions for storage, where the portions are contained within different types of containers. A multiple container type is used when containerising portions of a job, or across jobs.

Container Type Scope

Container types are created either with org-scope or lab-scope. An organisation or laboratory can contain multiple container types.

Container types are scoped by capacity type (container types are used for single container types, tray container types and multiple container types).

Properties of a Container Type of a Multiple Capacity Type

A multiple container type has:

  • A container name syntax used to generate new container codes
  • Default number of containers
  • A check box to indicate whether the capacity is variable or not
  • Stock item and description.

Use of Container Types of a Multiple Capacity Type

Single sample portions are containerised in a bulk container that has a capacity type of multiple, and then placed in storage. The SAM_TRACK_REG_MULTI_CONTAINER_TYPE application preference allows for a default multiple capacity container type for portions when they are containerised.
