Configure the Smart Excel Plug-in for CCLAS
Use this activity to configure the Smart Excel plug-in for CCLAS.
There is a Visual Studio related Smart Excel plug-in tool for Office that can be activated from the Options menu.
This plug-in allows users to interact with CCLAS using an Excel spreadsheet. The plug-in is tested on Office 2007 and 2013. For more information, refer to Exporting Grid Content to a Spreadsheet and Generating Grid Reports.
For the plug-in to be installed, the following conditions are required:
- The signed Server Certificate must be valid.
- Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime (VSTO) is installed (see note 2 below).
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer) is installed.
- The MSESEC—Security application, provides access to Smart Excel (see Accessing Smart Excel functionality below).

The plugin install option can only be displayed via the web using Microsoft Internet Explorer. Once it is installed SmartEXcel can be accessed by non IE browsers.

Install Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime if you have Office 2010 or Office 2007, else skip this step if you have Office 2013 or SP1 is installed on Office 2010.

Before executing the Smart Excel office Plug-in, you need to make sure Excel is not open.
Download and Install Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime. This installs as:
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (x64 or x86))
Download and Install Microsoft .NET Framework 4. This installs as:
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended
Accessing Smart Excel Functionality
The Smart Excel functionality is accessible as a core right for core roles, and to these users, the Smart Excel drop-down is displayed with the Excel symbol.
To access the Smart Excel functionality perform the following:
- Access the user via the CCUSER—User application.
- Add the role that includes the SmartExcel permissions.
- Note that the SmartExcel permissions are included in the MSE SMARTEXCELL right.
When the Excel application is launched, if the Datamine tab does not show after the plug-in is installed, then ensure that the location for the Excel file is listed as one of the trusted locations. To do this:
- In Excel > Office Logo > Excel Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Trusted Locations > Add New Location (to add in where the Exported Excel file is located.
Note: To share the SmartExcel created file, users still need to have access to the:
