Conditions for Defaulting Upper Sample Scheme Analytes to Not Analysed

Where a sample scheme analyte links to a scheme version analyte that has an Upper Scheme (free-text scheme code) and Upper Analyte (free-text analyte code) defined, and another sample scheme analyte linked to the same sample has a Scheme Code and Analyte Code matching the Upper Scheme and Upper Analyte, then that other sample scheme analyte is termed the 'upper scheme' because the corresponding test is more suited to determining results in a higher range compared to the 'lower scheme'.

When both a lower sample scheme analyte and upper sample scheme analyte are registered on a sample, then the upper sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status defaults to Not Analysed because there may be no use for the upper sample scheme analyte, and it is only activated when the result of the lower sample scheme analyte exceeds the limits of the lower scheme's range. This occurs only where the lower sample scheme analyte is registered on the sample first, that is:

  • During sample group registration, when a lower sample scheme analyte and then an upper sample scheme analyte is registered on the sample group, then, for each expanded sample, the upper sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status set to Not Analysed.
  • When a sample has a sample scheme analyte and a corresponding upper sample scheme analyte is later registered on the sample, either using single or multiple sample update, then the upper sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status is set to Not Analysed.

This does NOT occur where the upper sample scheme analyte is registered on the sample first, that is:

  • During sample group registration, when an upper sample scheme analyte and then a lower sample scheme analyte is registered on the sample group, then, for each expanded sample, the upper sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status set to Not Started.
  • When a sample has a sample scheme analyte and a corresponding loewr sample scheme analyte is later registered on the sample, either using single or multiple sample update, then the upper sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status is set to Not Started.

Note that, where a sample scheme analyte's Workflow Status is set to Not Analysed, then the Completed Date is stamped and Completed By is set to the current user, and Internal DL Status, Scheme Limit Status, Standard Status, Precision Status, Specification Status, Composite Specification Status and Composite QC Status are set to Not Required.
