If unchecked (default on deploy), then the sample-scheme Workflow Status with a miscellaneous scheme, does not cascade to the sample..
If checked, then the Workflow Status of the sample-scheme, where the sample has a miscellaneous scheme, cascades up to the sample.
Note: The AUTO_CASCADE_MISC allows the sample-scheme status to cascade up to the sample. This means that the sample-scheme has bearing on the sample completion if the preference is turned on. If the preference is off, then if the miscellaneous scheme is the only scheme for the sample, the status of the sample will not go to complete. The AUTO_COMPLETE_MISC allows the sample-scheme to be completed when the job is started.
Typically the preference is not set at role or user level.
