Enter a sample result via the keyboard for a workbook session
To enter a numerical value into a cell for an analyte that is defined as a NUM data type, perform the following:
- Select the cell.
- Type the data into the cell or into the spreadsheet edit bar, or enter data from the instrument.
Numeric entries can contain numeric characters (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0) and special characters (+, -, (, ), /, $, %, ., E, and e).
- Negative numbers can be preceded by a minus sign (-) or enclosed in parentheses ("...").
- Commas (,) can be included in numeric entries as thousands separators.
- Numeric entries containing leading dollar signs ($) are formatted as currency.
- Numeric entries containing trailing percent signs (%) are formatted as percentages.
- To enter fractions, enter a leading integer, followed by the fraction (for example, 1 1/3). If there is no leading integer, the fraction should be preceded by a zero (for example, 0 2/3) so that it is not interpreted as a date.
- Numbers that are larger than the cell in which they are entered are converted to scientific notation unless a specific format is applied.
- Press the Enter key.
To enter text into a cell for an analyte that is defined as a STR data type, perform the following:
- Select the cell.
- Type the data into the cell or into the spreadsheet edit bar, or enter data from the instrument.
- Text is any set of characters that is not recognised as a number, date, or time.
- Logical and error values are usually the result of a formula, although entering these values can be useful for testing formulas. The logical values that can be entered are TRUE and FALSE. The error values that can be entered are #N/A, #VALUE!, #REF!, #NULL!, #DIV/0!, #NUM!, and #NAME?.

To enter a dates and times into a cell for an analyte that is defined as a DAT data type, perform the following:
- Select the cell.
- Enter the date.
- Dates and times are automatically recognised as follows:

To enter text into a cell for an analyte that is defined as an OLE data type, perform the following:

Select the cell.
- Select Edit » Select OLE/STR from the main menu.
- Locate and open the text file.
- Type the data into the file.
- Click Save.
- Close the file.
