Run a burden check

Activity steps:

1. Select the Design module.
2. If you have a topographical surface for the face, select that surface in the DataBlast Items Tree.

   The surface displays in the Viewport.

3. Right-click a drill pattern in the DataBlast Items Tree and select Edit Selected Drill Pattern in Designer from the menu.

   The drill pattern displays in design mode.

4. On the Layers toolbar (Design module), show the face burden surface and burden checking items.
5. If you do not have a topographical surface for the face, but the collar surface is topographical, to create an object that is just the face:
   1. On the Layers toolbar, show the collar surface.
   2. Draw a polygon to enclose the area of the face.
   3. On the CAD Tools ribbon menu, use the Cut Objects tool to retain only the topography within the polygon.

      DataBlast Pro creates a copy of the collar surface within the polygon. These objects are on the active layer.

   4. On the Layers toolbar, hide the collar surface.
6. Assign the face surface:
   1. On the Burden Check ribbon menu, click Select Face Surface.
   2. Select the face object in the Viewport.
7. Assign the face holes:
   1. On the Burden Check ribbon menu, enter the Search Distance to limit the width of the search. The recommended search distance is ⅓ to ½ of the average burden distance.
   2. Select the toe of the first hole in the row closest to the face.
   3. Select the toe of the last hole in the row closest to the face.

      Note: If the holes closest to the face are not in a row, you can select individual holes to create the burden checking string.

   4. Right-click or press Enter to finish the selection.
8. On the Burden Check ribbon menu, click Calculate Face Burdens.

   Note: The burden for each hole displays in one of the following colours:

   • Red: The burden is short; that is, the burden is less than the minimum burden for the hole diameter.
   • Green: The burden is between the minimum and maximum burden distances.
   • Blue: The burden is long; that is, the burden is greater than the maximum burden for the hole diameter.
9. Deselect the topographical surface in the DataBlast Items Tree.
10. In the Layers toolbar (Design module), hide the face burden surface and burden checking items.
11. To review the face burdens:
    1. On the Burden Check ribbon menu, click Review Face Burdens.
    2. Zoom in to view the burden check for the first hole.

       The hole displays in a projection plane defined by the collar, the toe and the nearest point on the face surface to the explosives column.

    3. On the Burden Check ribbon menu, click Check Previous Hole and Check Next Hole to move through the holes in the burden checking string as required.
12. Click Save Changes.
