Convert Alpha-Beta into True Dip and Dip Direction Values

Activity steps

  1. On the Drillhole ribbon tab, in the Analyse group, click Alpha/Beta.

    The 3D Coordinates panel displays.

  2. Select the Structure Table which contains the alpha/beta angle data.
  3. Update the Source Columns:
    • Alpha Angle—The acute angle (≤90°) along the major axis.
    • Beta Angle—Measured clockwise from the core reference line.
  4. Update the Output Columns:
    • Dip—The true dip.
    • Dip Direction—The dip direction.

    Note: If the structure table does not contain dip and dip direction columns, select <New Column> and when prompted, enter True_Dip and Dip_Direction as the new column names.

  5. Set the Orientation Mark used to measure the angle as either Top of core or Bottom of core.
  6. Set the Beta Angle Measurement as either Major Axis closest to the collar or Major Axis furthest to the collar.
  7. Click Generate.
