Screen Layout
The Discover Mobile interface has the following sections:
- The toolbar
- The main menu
- The map window
- The layer control panel
- The data entry window
The Discover Mobile app screen layout is shown in the screenshot below.

Map Window
Navigational Controls

Zoom In |
Zoom into the map window or place your two fingers on the screen, move them farther apart to zoom in. |

Panning
To pan, place a finger on the map window and drag in the required direction.
Rotating
To rotate, place two fingers on the map window and rotate your fingers in the required direction.
2D/3D View
To switch to the map window to 3D view, place two fingers on the map window, then slide your fingers up on the map window. To switch back to 2D view, place two fingers on the map window, then slide your fingers down on the map window.
Map Center
There is a set of cross-hairs at the center of the map, this can be used as a reference for digitizing objects, setting a waypoint or measuring with the ruler tool.
Map Center Coordinates
The map-center coordinates (X,Y) display at the bottom-right of the map window.
Note: The map-center coordinates display can be toggled in settings.
Location Coordinates
The GPS location coordinates (X,Y,Z) display at the top of the map window. The GPS location display can be toggled by tapping the GPS Status text.
Scalebar
A scalebar is located at the bottom-right of the map window. The scalebar automatically updates its size and increment based on the current map scale. Units display in metric and imperial.
Note: Scalebar display can be toggled in settings.
Layer Control
The layer control panel displays all open layers with controls for visibility, editability, selection and order.
Current Project
The name of the currently open project displays on the left side of the toolbar, above the layer control panel.
Layer Control Selection
To select a layer in the layer control panel, tap the layer. The currently selected layer is highlighted.
To unselect a layer in the layer control panel, tap the currently selected layer or tap another layer.
Note: Only one layer can be selected at a time. Some layer control tools are only available when a layer is visible.

Layer Information
Note: Information can only be viewed for editable and read-only vector layers.
Read-only layers can be viewed, but not be modified. The padlock icon indicates a read-only layer.
To view layer information:
- Select the layer and tap the edit icon.
- Navigate to the object you want to inspect in the map window.
- Tap the object.
The data entry window displays the object's information.
- Modify the data if necessary.
To view read-only layer information:
- Select the layer.
- Navigate to the object you want to inspect in the map window.
- Tap the object.
The data entry window displays the object's information.
Layer Styles
Google Map Layers
Google Maps layers can be toggled between none, normal, satellite, terrain or hybrid.
To toggle the Google map style:
- Tap the Map Style icon.
- Select the map style.
The map window displays the selected map style.
- To close the maps menu, tap the Map Style icon.
Note: the Discover Mobile app caches viewed regions and zoom level in Google Maps layers for offline viewing. To manually cache an area, zoom in on the project region to the level you want to operate at and pan to load the required area before going offline.
Image Layer Styles
Layer styles can be modified to make objects stand out in the map window. Point, line, polygon and image styles can all be modified.
To modify an image style:
- Select the point layer and make it visible by tapping the eye icon.
- Tap the style icon.
The Layer Style tab displays.
- On the Layer Style tab, modify the following point properties as required.
- Opacity
- Tap Apply.
Data Entry Screen
The data entry screen displays in the main section of the app when you add or commit data in a editable layer. The fields displayed on the data entry screen depend on the layer type and layer settings.
