Project Creation
Discover Mobile uses a project file created in the Discover software. In the Discover software, the project includes all the selected table, image, grid and audio files. Discover Mobile uses a more condensed format called a GeoPackage database (.GPKG), which stores all the selected desktop project data.
Validation rules must be set up in the project in the Discover software prior to import into the mobile app. The validation rules are used to determine which fields allow data entry and which fields are read-only. See Mobile Project Validation in the Discover for ArcGIS Pro user guide.
Project Transfer to the Mobile Device
After the GeoPackage is created, you can transfer the package to your device using one of the following methods:
- WiFi sync—Transfers the GeoPackage directly to the mobile app using a WiFi connection.
- File transfer—Saves the GeoPackage in a selected file location on your computer. Use this method if WiFi is not available. You can copy the GeoPackage onto your mobile device and import it into the Discover Mobile app.
Note: When a mobile project is exported from the Discover software to the mobile device, the mobile project is locked in the Discover software and cannot be edited.
Data Display and Entry on the Mobile Device
When the project is imported to the mobile device, the data displays in the layer control of the app. Data tables display as either read-only layers or editable layers, based on the table validation rules. Point, line, polygon and image data displays and can be edited and collected in the mobile app. When collecting data, the fields requiring data entry are based on the validation rules set in the Discover software. Data displays in the map window.
Project Transfer back to Discover Desktop
When you have completed the data collection, you must export the project as a GeoPackage from the Discover Mobile app back to the Discover software. If you used WiFi sync to import the project to the mobile device, then WiFi sync must be used to export the GeoPackage back to the Discover software. Similarly, if you used file transfer to import the project to the mobile device, then file transfer must be used to export the GeoPackage back to the Discover software.
When the GeoPackage is imported into the Discover software, the software detects if any changes were made to the tables. You can view tables that have been edited in the field and decide which tables to update with the new data. You can see the updated data in the Discover software in either table form or in the map window.
Demo Project
A demo project is included with the Discover Mobile app. You can use this project to practise the various features before creating your own project.
Note: The demo project is a fully functioning project, but it cannot be exported. Any data created or modified in the demo project cannot be transferred to the Discover software.
