Configure Sample Types
This list allows for the configuration of sample types of the various categories such as; Original, Quality Control (QC) and Composite.
Note: In DHLogger and Sample Station, the available sample types depend on the application area. For example, you cannot select Original sample types when creating QC Samples. Similarly, you can only select Composite sample types when creating a sample in the Composites tab.
To create a new sample type:
- On the Home screen, select Maintain » Reference Tables » Sample Definitions » Sample Lists from the menu.
The Sample list Administration screen displays.
- Select and expand the Sample Types node.
- Click New on the toolbar.
The Sample Types screen displays.
- Enter the name of the Sample Type.
- Enter a Description.
- Select whether to Allow Gaps. If checked, samples with gaps in the intervals to be entered in the sample table.
- Select whether to Allow Overlaps. If checked, samples with overlapping sample intervals can be entered in the sample table.
Note: When this option is enabled, it cannot be disabled.
- Select whether Samples must start at Depth Zero, this indicates whether the first sample has to have a depth_from = 0
- Select which Sample type will be associated with the following Sample Category:
- Original—For original (not duplicate) assay samples.
- QC—For duplicate or other quality control samples.
- Composite—For original (not duplicate) composite samples.
- Click OK.
To edit an existing sample type:
- On the Home screen, select Maintain » Reference Tables » Sample Definitions » Sample Lists from the menu.
The Sample list Administration screen displays.

Double-click on the sample type you want to edit.
The Sample list Administration screen displays.
- Edit the fields as required.
- Click OK.
