Create a User

Security Note: You need the SQL Server securityadmin role for this activity.

Activity Steps

  1. On the Home screen, select the User Administration module.

    Note: You can also select Options » System Administration » User Administration from the menu.

  2. On the toolbar, click New.

    The New User window displays.

  3. Select the Logon Type from:
    • Database Authentication
    • Windows Authentication—If selected, enter the Domain Name.
  4. Enter the User ID. This is the user's login name.
  5. Enter the user's Password.
  6. Select the user's Working Role. The Working Role manages many of the physical database permissions, such as Update or Delete access on a table. Select from:
    • Role_Century_Admin—Typically assigned to administrators.
    • Role_Full_Client_Admin
    • Role_Field_Geologist—Usually assigned to other users.
    • Role_Read_Only
    • Role_Core_Shed_Admin
    • Role_Core_Shed
    • Role_Core_Shed_Read_Only
  7. Enter the user's:
    • First Name—Mandatory
    • Middle Name—Optional
    • Last Name—Mandatory
    • Cost Center—Optional
    • Department—Optional
    • Phone Number—Optional
    • Location—Optional
    • Email Address—The email address is used if the user is identified as an email recipient during the configuration of automated email notifications.
  8. Select whether to set the user's status to Active. If unchecked, the user cannot access the application.
  9. Select whether to Connect to Central. If checked, the user can connect with DHLogger or Sample Station directly against the Central database.
  10. Select whether to Sync with DB. If checked, the user's login is automatically added to the SQL Server security and mapped in the database.

    Note: Users not synchronized with the database display with grey icons in the Users tree. To synchronize these users, select them and click Synchronize users with DB.

  11. Click OK.

Note:

  • If the user already exists based on their User ID code in the SQL Server, a prompt displays asking whether you want to replace the existing user information. If you say No the user old information remains.
  • If a Fusion remote data source is configured, a prompt displays to configure the user and login in the remote database within the specified SQL Server instance.
  • The Configuration Report button opens a Report Viewer window that allows you to select a user and view the configuration associated with that user. You can also print the report from this window.
