Backup the Central Database in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)

  1. Open Server Management Studio (SSMS).

    The Connect to Server window displays.

  2. Enter the following Server details:
    • Server type
    • Server name
    • Select the Authentication method. If required, enter your login credentials.
  3. Enter the following Connection Security details:
    1. Select the Encryption type.
    2. Select whether to Trust server certificate.
    3. If Strict is selected as the Encryption type, enter the Host name in certificate.

  4. Click Connect.

    The nodes for the database display in the Object Explorer window.

  5. Expand the Databases node.
  6. Right-click on the database you want to backup and select Tasks » Back Up... from the menu.

    The Back Up Database window displays.

  7. Select the General page.
  8. In the Source section:
    1. Ensure the correct Database is selected.
    2. Select the Backup Type as Full for a complete backup or Differential to back up changes made since the last full backup.
    3. Set the Backup component to Database.
  9. In the Destination section, click Add....

    The Select Backup Destination window displays.

  10. Select the Destinations on disk as File name.
  11. Click the browse icon ....

    The Locate Database Files window displays.

  12. Select a destination to save the backup database. The Selected path automatically updates.
  13. Set the Files of type to Backup Files(*.bak;*.tm).
  14. Enter a File name for the database.

    Note: When entering a file name, you must include .bak at the end of you file name. Having the .bak extension included in the name makes the file easier to locate when you want to restore a database. See Restore a Fusion Database.

  15. Click OK.

    The Select Backup Destination window closes.

  16. To set the options for the database (optional):
    1. Select the Media Options page.
    2. In the Overwrite media section, select Back up to the existing media set.
    3. Select whether to Append to the existing backup set or Overwrite all existing backup sets.
    4. In the Reliability sections, if applicable select one or more of the following options:
      • Verify backup when finished
      • Perform checksum before writing to media
      • Continue on error
  17. Click OK.

    The message The backup of database "..." completed successfully displays.

  18. Click OK.
