Overview

Greenland’s mineral tenure is governed by the Mineral Resources Act (2009, as amended), administered by the Government of Greenland – Ministry of Mineral Resources. Mineral rights are state-owned and granted through exploration and exploitation licences. Licences are issued through application (not staking) and may cover large areas during early exploration phases.

Greenland emphasizes environmental protection, social impact assessment, and community consultation, particularly for advanced-stage projects.
