Set up a Packing Template

Security Note: You need the Allow packing template maintenance security right in the Supply Chain user group security rights group for this activity.

Activity Steps

  1. Select the Supply Chain panel in the Solution Explorer.
  2. Expand the Discrete Units » Packing Template Categories node.
  3. Right-click a packing template category and select New » Packing Template from the menu.

    The Packing Template displays.

  4. Complete the following fields as required.
    • Name
    • Location—Location or discrete unit division at which this packing template is to be used. Select from the discrete unit locations and discrete unit divisions defined on the Supply Chain panel of the Solution Explorer.
    • Packing Process Flow—Used to create the packages from bulk materials. Select from the packing process flows defined on the Supply Chain panel of the Solution Explorer that have the package location as the destination location for a packing process flow when packaging, or have the package location as the source location for a packing process flow when recycling the package (unpacking).
    • Source Stockpile—Select from the stockpiles at the various locations that are a source location for a packing process flow.
    • Package Type—Select from the package types defined on the Supply Chain panel of the Solution Explorer.
    • Product—Product that the material becomes when it is packaged using this template. Select from the Allowed Products of the selected Package Type.
    • Default Sample Template—Default sample template from which to create a sample for the batch each time packages are created or added. Select from the sample templates defined for the packing process flow.
    • Default Number Of Packages
    • Number Of Units
    • Mass UOM—Select from the Mass units defined in the Unit Conversion Editor.
    • Net Mass
    • Preserve Tare Mass—Whether to preserve the tare mass of packages. If checked, a default tare mass can be specified, and the default gross mass is calculated as the net mass plus the tare mass. If unchecked, the default net mass and default gross mass can be edited separately, and the tare mass is not stored for the package type. Default: As specified for the selected Package Type.
    • Enforce Location
  5. If a Default Sample Template is selected, enter the Packing Sample Size. Example: Packing Sample Size is 10:
    • If 20 packages are created for a discrete unit batch based on this packing template, 2 samples are created. Each sample is assigned to 10 packages.
    • If 13 packages are created for a discrete unit batch based on this packing template, 2 samples are created. One sample is assigned to 10 packages and the other sample is assigned to 3 packages.

Note: If a sample template is selected, but no packing sample size is specified, one sample is created each time packages are created for the discrete unit batch. However, this functionality is only possible if the Packing Sample Size on the packing template is blank. If the packing template has a packing sample size, the default Packing Sample Size in the discrete unit batch can be changed to another value, but cannot be made blank or zero.

  6. If Preserve Tare Mass is checked, enter the Tare Mass.

The default gross mass is calculated as the default net mass plus the default tare mass, and is a read-only field.

  7. If Preserve Tare Mass is unchecked, enter the Gross Mass.
  8. Click Save.
