Add a Route to a Shipment

This activity is not applicable to shipments created from a shipment template. Shipments created from a template inherit the route specified on the template. However, the template may allow the route to be edited. Alternatively, it may be possible to change the template of the shipment, which may involve a route change.

The shipment's route can be based on a predefined ship route, or created for the individual shipment.

The route can have route points and route markers:

  • Route points are used for recording planned and actual arrival and departure times and all loading and unloading activities at a location. A location can only be added once to a route. Points from a predefined route have a route symbol above the point in the route diagram.
  • Route markers can only be used for recording planned and actual arrival and departure times.

When using a predefined route, the default planned times in the route plan consider the duration time and travel time estimates of the route. For example, if the loading point has a loading duration of 30 minutes, the planned arrival date is the current time, and the planned departure time is 30 minutes later.

When creating an individual route, or adding points or markers to a predefined route, the default planned time of the first point or marker is the current time. Additional points and markers are added at one second intervals. The planned arrival dates (or actual arrival dates if entered) must be in sequence before saving the despatch.

Security Note: You need the Allow shipment route plan modifications security right in the Shipments domain security rights group for this activity.
