Logsheet Data

Logsheet overview

The term 'logsheet' has a broader meaning in Production Accounting than in other contexts. Conceptually, a logsheet is a collection of data 'tags' for a defined time period, such as a shift, day or month.

In the Production Accounting application, a logsheet can be a web browser screen in which a user manually enters data or a web browser screen that displays data acquired by integration, where the user may or may not be allowed to edit that data. Logsheets can also be 'hidden' structures that do behind-the-scenes calculations or store information for business processes.

Some 'hidden' logsheets perform similar functions as 'visible' logsheets but are not configured to display in the user interface. Where hidden logsheets do behind-the-scenes calculations, the calculated values may or may not be referenced in other visible logsheet screens. But, these values can be viewed via the Calculation Tracer and made available to reporting systems. Logsheets that store business processes information, such as logsheet locking or inter-process communications, are also typically hidden.

Generally, the (visible) logsheets you work with in the Production Accounting web application are to view and enter plant production data for specific time periods; for example, a shift, day, or month. Logsheets can also be used for budget and forecast data and to manage the dated constant values that the application uses to perform calculations.

There are three main user interface layouts for logsheets: data entry logsheets, data summary logsheets, and summary view logsheets.

Data entry logsheets

Data entry logsheets have a user interface that displays data (some of which may be sourced from integrated systems like a LIMS or DCS) and includes editable cells for manual data entry. Date selection fields display at the top of the screen. Data is presented in a grid-style layout and grouped into a list of sections that represent particular processes, circuits, or equipment (for example, feeds, grinding, concentrators, tanks). You can select a logsheet section to view and edit its data.

Data summary logsheets

Data summaries are logsheet screens that summarise plant production data for specific time periods; for example, a shift, day, or month.

Data summaries look similar to data entry logsheets. Their interface includes date selection fields, a grid-style layout and logsheet section list you navigate to view data. However, the data cells in a data summary are read-only and cannot be edited.

Summary view logsheets

Summary views also present summarised data but with a different layout and screen elements. Like all other logsheets, the summary view has date selection fields at the top of the screen. However, all data is read-only and is presented in a static tabular layout (without section navigation).

Summary views are custom-built and are generally used for more detailed summary formats than the standard data summary logsheet.

Using the logsheet interface

Below are tips and general guidelines for the logsheet user interface.

Note: Production Accounting is a web application that requires users to enter data in a 'stateless' manner. There is no auto-save functionality during data entry. Before you enter or update logsheet data, make sure your screen is refreshed to display the most up to date data. When you enter or update logsheet data, frequent manual saving is recommended.

Submit button

To load logsheet data for a particular date, you must select the date and press the Submit button.

Changing the date selection without clicking Submit does not load data. If you click Save and the loaded logsheet and selected date do not match, you lose your data and an error message displays. Check the Log Time date at the top of the data entry column regularly to ensure it matches the date selected at the top of the logsheet screen.

Edit button

On some data entry logsheet screens, you must press the Edit button to make fields available for editing. The Edit button is usually located at the bottom of the logsheet screen.

Numeric data entry

For data entry in numeric cells:

  • Do not enter any text, including qualifiers that appear before assay values (such as < or >) or unit abbreviations or symbols (such as ppm or %).
  • Negative values that begin with a minus symbol are accepted (for example, -2.54).

If you include text in a numeric cell, the entry is marked as invalid and the system prompts you to re-enter a valid number.

Only comment fields can accept text and symbols.

Save button

You must press the Save button to save data before navigating to a different section on the same logsheet screen or to a different screen. Users are not prompted to save. The Enter key cannot be used to save data.

Warning: If you move between screens or screen sections or submit a change of date without clicking Save, your data entry will be lost. No error message or prompt displays when a user fails to save, so regular manual saving is important for accurate data entry.

Dates after session time-outs

When you return to Production Accounting after a session time-out, check the logsheet's date selection fields. When a screen first loads or reloads after a session time-out, the application displays the logsheet for the default date or period. The default is either the current date or (if configured) a custom offset date or period, such as the previous shift or day.

Note: Session time-out and automatic re-log in may result in data entry for the wrong date. Refresh your screen and select the correct date again if required before you continue data entry.

Dates and logsheet navigation

If you navigate from a shift or day logsheet to a month logsheet (on which you select and submit a date) and then go back to a shift or day logsheet, the shift or day date selection is affected. In this scenario, the shift or day logsheet for the first day of the month displays by default. Select the correct shift or day logsheet date again before you continue data entry.

Wait times and refresh

Production Accounting is a web application and calculations are executed on the server. Therefore, the calculation results of your data entry may not be returned immediately.

A logsheet may display a message that results are not final and that calculations are pending. Press the Submit button again to refresh the screen and obtain the results.

Note: To determine the number of calculations that are pending on the server, go to the Calculation Queue screen.

Audit Service error message

If the Audit Service is down for any reason, all data entry cells still appear to have an audit history. However, an error message displays when you hover on a cell's audit icon. Audit icon
