Stockpile Balances

Stockpile balances measure the mass and grade of a stockpile at any point in time.

In Reconcilor, balances can be calculated using either raw or adjusted datasets, depending on your site configuration.

Types of Stockpile Balances

  • Raw Stockpile Balances – Calculated using Resolved Raw transactions only. These represent unadjusted, source-level data directly from operational systems.
  • Adjusted Stockpile Balances – Calculated using a dataset that has been scaled or adjusted according to site-specific business rules.

Note: This is not a “stockpile adjustment.” It refers to a separate, derived dataset created through site-defined adjustment logic.

Balance Calculation

A stockpile balance begins with the opening balance recorded against the stockpile, including its opening date and shift.

From that point, the balance is carried forward through subsequent shifts until the stockpile is closed, even when there is no activity during a given period.

Stockpile Composition

Stockpile composition refers to the block-level make-up of a stockpile — that is, the proportion of material from each contributing source or block.

For example:

If a stockpile contains 1,000 tonnes, its composition might include 500 t from Block A and 500 t from an Unknown block.

A portion of 'Unknown' material is valid and expected in some cases, due to:

  • Negative balances
  • Stockpile adjustments
  • Additions from sources with missing or unknown identifiers

The composition of a stockpile is calculated using the selected modelling algorithm (for example, FIFO, LIFO or Average) and forms the basis for the reconciled stockpile balance.

Reclaim Movements

For all stockpile reclaim movements:

  • The source stockpile (not the original block) is used as the source for the transaction.
  • If the stockpile uses a FIFO, LIFO, LIFO Average, or LIFO Configured algorithm, the grade of the original block will be retained, but the block ID will not be carried forward.

Stockpile Adjustments

Stockpile adjustments are manual user-applied changes used to correct or modify a stockpile's mass or grade balance.

They are typically used to align balances with survey measurements, plant data, or validated operational results.

How Adjustments Are Applied

Stockpile balance adjustments reset the stockpile balance to the values defined in the adjustment.

They are applied by the Raw Stockpile Balance (RSB) service at the end of its calculation cycle.

This sequence ensures that:

  • Any values not explicitly changed by the adjustment are first recalculated.
  • Only the specified fields are overridden.

Example: If a stockpile adjustment updates one of several grades, the remaining grades will first be calculated normally before the adjusted grade value is applied.

Summary

Stockpile balances and their compositions form the foundation of accurate material tracking in Reconcilor.

By combining balance calculations, algorithm-driven composition modelling, and adjustment capability, Reconcilor ensures that stockpile grades and tonnes reflect real operational performance and can be confidently used in reconciliation and reporting.
