Store IT
Overview
Store IT is the central foundation of the SABLE® solution, providing an integrated platform for data capture, data management, user access control, and configurable validation frameworks. It enables structured storage and governance of geological and mining data, ensuring consistency and traceability throughout the lifecycle of a project.
With its powerful back-end, Store IT supports custom graphical reporting through SABLE® View, allowing primary and secondary data to be visualised in a flexible and user-friendly format. It also facilitates seamless data interfacing to third-party applications via custom exports and views tailored to fit each client’s operational and reporting needs.
Why Store IT Is Needed
In the exploration and mining industry, decision-making depends on accurate and well-connected geoscientific observations. These observations are rarely isolated—they are part of a dynamic and interconnected dataset that spans years, projects, locations, and changing operational realities.
From exploration to production, each phase of the mining value chain involves changes in:
- Project scale and scope
- Staffing and consultants
- Financial structures
- Standard operating procedures
- Data acquisition methods
- Software environments
- IT infrastructure
Without a centralised, relational data management system, each of these changes risks introducing fragmentation, redundancy, or data loss. Store IT addresses this by maintaining a single source of truth across the mining lifecycle—ensuring that all data, historical and current, remains coherent, auditable, and aligned with business needs.
This need is further underscored by international mineral reporting standards such as JORC (2012), SAMREC, and NI 43-101, which demand transparency, materiality, and demonstrated competence in the classification of mineral resources and reserves.
Current Industry Practices and Challenges
Despite the complexity of mining data, many operations continue to rely on:
- Spreadsheets
- Light-weight databases such as MS Access
- Basic SQL Server implementations without proper relational structure
These solutions often fall short of best practice and suffer from serious limitations, including:
- Inability to model real-world relationships
- Poor scalability and limited data capacity
- Lack of integrated security and user control
- High susceptibility to human error and fraud
- Difficulty in consolidating data across sources
- Weak auditability and version control
- Redundant or duplicated data entries
- Validation and integrity issues
- Limited compatibility with other tools or platforms
Such environments hinder long-term efficiency, introduce compliance risk, and undermine trust in the data.

Client Feedback
“Typically, geological data is collected many decades before mining activity begins. Often, this data is collected by different geologists from different organizations and stored in different formats and locations. The successful extraction of an orebody is largely dependent on how accurate and trustworthy the dataset is which informs the geological and resource models. The true value of quality unprocessed data is often underestimated. Northam’s SABLE® database structure benefited from the vast knowledge base provided by the SABLE team through decades of Bushveld database refinement.” Group Geologist, Northam Platinum Limited, 2025
