Link to a Secure Access Database

Data Source Drivers enable Datamine products to link to external data sources, including other general mining packages, CAD-based packages, Microsoft Excel® spreadsheets, Access® databases and text files. One of the most frequently used Data Source drivers is the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver, which allows the seamless transfer of information from a data source, to the software product.

ODBC data source drivers are required when connecting to an Excel spreadsheet or Access database table; the following procedure outlines the process of creating  a system ODBC data source for a secure Microsoft Access database.

Create a Link to a Secure Access Database

  1. Launch the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog from your computer.

  2. Select the System DSN tab, and click Add to create a new System DSN.

  3. Select [Microsoft Access] as the driver you wish to use, and click Finish.

  4. Enter a name for the new DSN data source.

  5. Click Select, and browse to the database .mdb file.

  6. Select the Advanced option and ensure that the Read Only value is set to ‘1’.  Ensure that a suitably authorized login name is chosen.

  7. As the database in question is secure, it is necessary to direct the System DSN to the appropriate Microsoft Access security file. To do this, toggle on the Database option.

  8. Click System Database, and browse to the appropriate Microsoft Access security file.

  9. Click OK to display a new listing in the System DSN tab.

  10. In the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog, click OK.
