Manage Colour Schemes
To access this screen:
-
On the Data Ranges screen of the Create New Legend wizard, browse for a colour scheme.
The Manage Color Schemes screen is used to edit the entries available in the Color scheme drop down list on the Data Ranges screen of the Create New Legend tool.
This screen lets you define a gradient between two colours (legends with more variation can be imported). Essentially, you choose how colours cycle between two colours. You can define as many colour schemes as you like, with the information being saved to the current project when it saved.
You can also import and export .dmcs (Datamine Colour Scheme) files containing gradient information. This is a great way to transfer data between different projects, users, teams and so on.
The main aspect of the Manage Color Schemesscreen is the colour schemes table. A set of default colour schemes is installed with your product.
The table contains the following data:
- Name: a title for the color scheme, either imported or defined by you.
- Preview: a bar preview of the color scheme gradient. This will cycle through colors gradually, starting with the From and ending at the To colors (see below).
- From/To: the start and end colors of the gradient. You can change either of these and the Preview (see above) will update automatically. You can currently only generate a gradient between two colors.
- Table: you can either generate a gradient based on the [RGB] (red, green blue) values of the From and To colors, or using the [HLS] (hue, lightness, saturation) values. This will affect how a gradient is achieved, with [HLS] gradients generally likely to cycle through more hues than the [RGB] option.
- Clockwise: choose which way around the 'color wheel' to generate a gradient, either Clockwise or anticlockwise.
Similar to other table lists in Studio, you can remove entries from the list using the 'X' button of the corresponding row. If you scroll to the bottom of the table, you'll see a special table row containing a '+'. This lets you add a new entry to the table, with a new gradient definition.
Once you have defined your color schemes, you can choose to Export the information to an external file (recommended). Alternatively, you can Import data from elsewhere and either Add to the current list or Replace it with the contents of the imported file.
Finally, click OK to return to the Create New Legend tool. Any color schemes added to the table will be present in the Color Scheme drop-down list, e.g.:
If you want to restore the default configuration for all color schemes, click Restore. This will revert any changes you have made.
