Customize Keyboard

Assign shortcut keys to common operations.

To access this dialog:

  • Right-click an empty menu bar area and select Customize, then select the Keyboard tab.

  • Right-click a toolbar icon and select Customize, then select the Keyboard  tab.

The Keyboard tab of the Customize dialog allows you to set up shortcut keys for commonly-used operations:

The Keyboard tab has the following fields:

Field details:

Category: this drop-down list displays all current command groups. All descriptions shown here will match a root level drop-down menu description to make it easier to find the command you wish to associate with an accelerator key.

Commands: the Commands list will be populated with all commands relevant to the selected Category. Selecting a command will show any currently assigned shortcut information.

Description: if a command has an associated textual description, it will be shown here.

Set Accelerator for: not currently used.

Current Keys: if a command has any associated shortcut key combination(s), the relevant information is displayed here. Selecting an item in this list will enabled the Remove button. You can have multiple combinations for the same command if required.

You can show the shortcut key combination as part of a toolbar command's tooltip by setting the Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips option on the Options tab of this dialog.

 

Press New Shortcut Key: to create a new shortcut key or combination, click into this field and press the desired key combination on your keyboard. The resulting text will be shown in this field. You can now Assign this combination to the currently selected Command.

Assign: providing a key combination is shown in the Press New Shortcut Key field, this button will allow you to add it to the Current Keys list.

Remove: if a combination is highlighted in the Current Keys list, you can remove the select shortcut with this button.

Reset All: reset your system to default settings with this button.

You cannot undo this operation.
