Add Overlay Dialog

To access this dialog:

In the Sheets control bar:
- right-click an Overlays folder, select Insert,
- in the Plot Item Library dialog, select a plot item type, click OK or,
In the Format Display dialog's Overlays tab, Overlay Objects group, select the Show Overlays option, click Add.

The Add Overlay dialog is used to add object overlays to the current sheet (i.e. in the Plots, Logs, Tables or Reports windows).

What is an Overlay?

An overlay represents a single view of an object in memory; this can be loaded data or data created in your application. One file (object) can have multiple overlays, meaning that you can view the same object, in different ways, on screen simultaneously if required. This can be useful if you wish to create a label overlay, and draw the underlying vector data to the screen at the same time - in this situation you need two overlays for the same object: one for the vector data, and one for the labels, ensuring both are visible (using theStyletab).

Field Details:

Object List: select an object, that you wish to create an overlay for, from the list of currently loaded data.

More than one overlay can be created for the same object. This dialog can only be used to add one overlay at a time.

OK: add an overlay for the selected object, defining overlay type using thePlot Item Librarydialog.

Once the overlay has been added, the formatting parameters can be edited back in the Format Display dialog's Overlays tab.

Cancel: close this dialog without adding a new overlay.
