Duplicate Project File Dialog

An explanation of fields and properties

Duplicate Project File Dialog

To access this dialog:

  • Attempt to load a file with the same name as one existing in the current project, but existing in a different location.

This dialog is displayed whenever an attempt is made to introduce a new file into the project, which has an identical name to an existing item, but is found in a different location than the original.

Field Details:

Replace the existing file with the new file: in this situation, the file from the new location will be used to overwrite the existing file of the same name, with the new source location stored in the resulting object. When this data is refreshed, or reloaded, it is the new source location that is relevant. In effect, all links to the original file will be lost.

Provide a different logical name for the new file: if this option is selected, you will need to update (or rewrite) a description in the enabled text field (this must be different to the original file name). The term 'logical' indicates that the new description applied will be used when referencing the data that is loaded; the actual file name will not be changed on your system. In this situation, both the original object and new object will coexist within the same project, and even though the underlying file names are identical, they will be described differently in the application.

Don't ask again this session: if enabled, duplicate project files will be added to the project without further prompts in the current project session. If disabled (default setting), the Duplicate Project File dialog will reappear each time a project file is added that has a different file path to an identically named project file.

This dialog is not shown if you attempt to re-load an existing file (in this situation, an object is created in memory with an automatically generated name to indicate it is a duplicate).

For example, if your project already contains an instance of the Studio 3 tutorial file _vb_bssttr.dm, originally loaded from the DMTutorials\Data\VBOP\Datamine folder, and a subsequent attempt is made to load a file with the same name from, say, C:\Temp, the Duplicate Project File dialog is shown, and you will be asked to perform one of the above listed options.
