Importing a Wireframe
As with all types of 3D Data (points, strings, wireframes etc.), there are two main ways to import data:
-
Data can be loaded from the current project (the object must exist in memory), or;
-
Data can be imported using data source drivers, permitting the transfer of data held in files on your local system or network.
To import a wireframe
To import a wireframe file into the 3D window, use one of the following methods:
-
Right-click the Wireframes folder in the Sheets control bar (3D sub-folder). In the Data Import dialog, select the relevant Driver Category and Data Type for the file you wish to import. Click OK and locate the file you wish to import in the file browser.
Polygons, polylines, strings, contours and drillholes are imported as string objects using the Data Source Drivers (DSD). A wide range of generic and third party data formats are supported by DSD. Alignment strings are used by the 3D window as a guideline for mobile/simulation objects.
The operation of each driver varies according to the driver selected and the contents of the source file. For instructions on the use of a specific driver, choose the Help button on the driver dialogs displayed. For more information about data source drivers see Using Data Source Drivers. -
Right-click the Wireframes folder in the Sheets control bar, VR folder, and select Import from Project. Select the wireframe object from the provided dialog and an instance of that object will be created in the 3D window. Note that each Datamine object can be represented any number of times in the 3D window. Although the link between the source object and 3D object is maintained, some disparity between items is possible (for example, the description of each 3D object 'instance' is customizable).
In this situation, the source object (i.e. the name of the physical file) will be visible in the Wireframe Properties dialog. -
You can also drag a file from Windows Explorer or Project Files control bar directly into the window to initiate the import process automatically.
The imported wireframe will be listed in the Sheets control bar under the Wireframes folder. Click to expand the folder. The wireframe will also be displayed in the world view using the default rendering settings. Double-click the object in either the Sheets control bar, VR Wirefarmes sub-folder or in the 3D window to display the Wireframe Properties dialog.
