Drag-and-drop

Drag-and-drop is an action performed with the mouse whereby a file is selected by clicking and then dragged from one location to another location. In the case of Studio data loading, this means dragging one or more loadable files into the 3D window, or by dragging and dropping file references in the Project Files or Project Data control bar into the 3D window.

The two main uses for drag-and-drop are the addition of files to the project and the loading of files. The table below summarizes the use of drag-and-drop of files and objects:

  • Adds the selected file(s) to the project.

  • Lists them in the appropriate folder in the Project Files control bar.

Loaded Data control bar

  • Adds the selected file(s) to the project and lists them in the appropriate folder in the Project Files control bar.

  • Loads the file(s) into memory

  • Displays the 3D objects in the data windows (e.g. 3D, Plots).

  • Adds items to the corresponding Overlay folders.

Data window (3D, Plots)

  • Adds the selected file(s) to the project and lists them in the appropriate folder in the Project Files control bar.

  • Loads the file(s) into memory

  • Displays the 3D objects in the data windows (e.g. 3D, Plots).

  • Adds items to the corresponding Overlay folders.

  • Loads the file(s) into memory

  • Displays the 3D objects in the data windows (e.g. 3D, Plots).

  • Adds items to the corresponding Overlay folders.

Note: Whilst many file types can be loaded by dragging and dropping, not all importable data types are supported.
