Geological Features - Polygons

Adding geological features to plot sheets

Geological Features - Polygons

To access this group of commands:

  • In the Plots window, select a plot sheet in Normal Mode, In the Plots window, select a plot sheet in Normal Mode, activate theManageribbon and chooseInsert | Geology | Polygon

These commands are used to annotate plot sheets with polygons (a strings object) which can be use to represent geological features e.g. an area of rock outcrop at surface, a lithological horizon on a section.

The program automatically defines objects with default legends when one of these object types is defined, and saves them in the project. It is not necessary to export the data to save these features, although, if required, the data can be saved to file either on saving the project for the first time, or via the Loaded Data control bar, using the context menu for a specific object.

These features are drawn on the current section plane, using left-click or right-click (snapping) mouse actions.

The following polygonal geological features are available and can be used in plan or section:

  • Lithology Outline - define a polygon, with an automatically generated Lithology attribute; the Feature attribute is set to 'LithoBdy'. Saved to the Lithology object.

  • Stratum- define a polygon, with an automatically generated Lithology attribute; the Feature attribute is set to 'Stratum'. Saved to the Lithology object.

  • Ore Zone Boundary- define a polygon, with an automatically generated Lithology and Zone attributes; the Feature attribute is set to 'Ore Body'. Saved to the Ore Zones object.

  • Vein - define a polygon, with an automatically generated Lithology attribute; the Feature attribute is set to 'Vein'.

  • Reef - define a polygon, with an automatically generated Lithology attribute; the Feature attribute is set to 'Reef'.

  • Polygon Feature - define a polygon; the Feature attribute is set to '-'. Saved to the Polygon Features object.

The Lithology Outline, Stratum and Ore Zone Boundary features automatically have the dominant lithology determined from the available data e.g. drillholes. High quality plots can be quickly generated by coloring the lithology boundaries using a lithology legend.
