Command Overview

Add points to a string that intersects a wireframe surface, at the point of intersection.

This command designed to handle a wide range of situations: from a single string and wireframe to multiple strings intersecting multiple wireframes, including cases where strings double back over the same wireframe.

Data preselection is supported with this command:

  • Run the command with nothing selected and then click the strings and wireframes you want, or

  • Pre‑select one or more strings and/or wireframes, and the command will use your selection to decide what to ask you (or skip prompts entirely).

Intersection points are added to the target string(s) wherever they intersect a wireframe surface. This includes internal surfaces, or if strings intersect the wireframe in more than one place (say, a string that passes through two or more lobes of a folded wireframe volume).

Command steps:

  1. Load and display at least one wireframe and one string overlay. Strings to be updated must intersect at least one wireframe surface.

  2. Preselect wireframe and/or string data.

  3. Run the command.

  4. Depending on your data selection states, one of the following happens:

    • If strings are selected, but wireframes aren't, you are asked to select a wireframe overlay.

    • If wireframe data is selected, but strings aren't you are asked to select string(s) to update with additional intersection points.

    • If nothing is selected, you are prompted to pick the wireframe, then the string(s) to update.

    • I both strings and wireframe data are selected, the selected intersecting strings are automatically updated. You can then select more strings if required.

Note: If string data is selected that does not cleanly intersect a wireframe in at least one place, the string is not changed.

  5. Click Done to close the command mode.

  6. Save your project.

Command Automation

You can automate by passing this command and parameters into oDmApp.ParseCommand(), using any COM-aware scripting language.

Note: For more information on scripting in Studio NPVS+, please refer to your Scripting Tutorial (Help > Scripting Tutorial).

Example Parameter String (JS):

oDmApp.ParseCommand("insert-string-wfm-points @point=100.0,200.0,0.0,1";

Where:

  • @point=100.0,200.0,0.0,1 is the ParsePointArguments: X,Y,Z,nButton.

Parameter Description Reqd? Example Syntax
ParsePointArguments

X,Y,Z,nButton.

  • X is a numeric (double) world coordinate value.

  • Y is a numeric (double) world coordinate value.

  • Z is a numeric (double) world coordinate value.

  • nButton is an integer value parsed as part of @point input. Enumerated types are:

    • 1: Left mouse button behaviour

    • 2: Middle mouse button behaviour
