Digitizing Features

Inserting, editing and deleting features

An extensive range of features and geological features may be digitized onto a plot. Digitizing is the action of creating outlines and shapes by defining points or vertices.

Digitizing can be carried out over any number of plans, sections and views. It may commence in a plan and be continued in a section or even a depth, or interval table.

  • 3D Features can only be added to section views.

  • You must have a mouse or similar pointing device attached to your computer.

Basic digitizing

  1. Choose one of the linear features from theManageribbon'sInsert | Geologymenu.
  2. Using the left button, click, release, move and repeat to define a line of points in a section view.
  3. To end digitizing, right-click and choose Apply from the context menu.

Choose one of the polygon features (Manageribbon'sInsert | Geology | Polygoncommand)

  1. Using the left button, click, release, move and repeat to define a polygonal outline of points in a section view.
  2. To end digitizing, right-click and choose Apply from the context menu.

 

Note: If the linear feature or the polygon feature disappears when you click the mouse away from the feature you must:

  1. Select Format 3D Objects

  2. Press Add

  3. Select Linear Features

  4. Select Lines Overlay

  5. Select Apply then OK

     

    Inserting points

    1. Click to select the line or polygon to be edited.

    2. Right click and choose Edit Points and click on a line segment between two points and drag the inserted point to the desired location. Click again to position.

    3. Repeat until editing is completed and then right-click and choose Apply to exit edit points mode.

    Moving points

    1. Click to select the line or polygon to be edited.

    2. Right click and choose  Edit Points and click the point to be moved. Drag the point to the desired location. Click again to position.

    3. Repeat until editing is completed and then right-click and choose Apply to exit edit points mode.

    Panning and zooming

    You can use any of the view commands and window slide bars while digitizing without interrupting edit mode.

    Deleting points

    1. Click to select the line or polygon to be edited.

    2. Right click, choose Delete Points and click the point to be deleted.

    3. Repeat until editing is completed and then click away from the selected line to exit delete points mode.

    Deleting lines and polygons

    1. Click to select the line or polygon to be deleted.

    2. Right-click and choose Delete trace.

    Deleting objects

    Features are stored in the document as 3D Objects.

    1. Using theDataribbon, expand theUnloadmenu

    2. Check the object or objects to be deleted from the document.

     

    Snapping to drillholes

    Snapping to drillhole samples is controlled with the sample selection commands from the Select Methodmenu

    1. Using theManageribbon, select theSelect | Methoddrop-down list to chooseTable Interval to turn on and off sample snapping.

    2. Select a sample table (lithology, assays, etc.) in the Change Table toolbar box.

     Using the Hole Wizard

    1. Start a new project, selectHole Wizardusing theDataribbon

    2. Select (collars, surveys, lithology) from the wizard and click Next.

    3. Select Add, then select Text and Tables

    4. Import the text files to create the drillholes (collars, surveys, lithology), click Next after each one.

    5. Leave the default settings on the final page and click Finish.

    6. Right-click the Plots window and select Format Display.

    7. Use the Drillholes tab to hange the drillholes to suit and click OK when complete.



     

    1. Using theManageribbon, select theSelect | Methoddrop-down list to chooseTable Interval to turn on sample snapping if it is disabled.

    2. Using theManageribbon, select theSelect | Tablecommand

    3. Select the Lithology log table

    4. Using theManageribbon, chooseInsert | Geologyto selectLithology Outline

    5. Select the top of a lithology on each drillhole, continue and select base of the lithology.

    6. To end digitizing right click and select Apply  

    Snapping to other 3D features and other objects

    Use theHomeribbon, chooseSnapping | Settings to select snap objects and settings.

    Use quick keys to control snap settings while digitizing and editing:

  1. Displaying snap points

    1. Using theManageribbon selectFormat | Overlays

    2. Select an object in the display list (linear features).

    3. Check Snap Points on the Style tab.

    4. Choose OK.

     

  2. Tracing

    When digitizing a polygon or line (Manageribbon -Insert | Geology | Polygon), hold down the SHIFT key and left button and drag the pointer along the boundary of an adjoining polygon. Release the left button and SHIFT key to end string mode and continue digitizing points.

    You can also snap to individual points on a common boundary one by one.

    Snap and trace mode controls provide you with easy and accurate control over all digitizing and point editing tasks.
