Calculate Geotechnical Attributes

To access this screen:

  • Using the command line, enter "calculate-geotechnical-attributes" and press ENTER.

  • Use the quick key combination "cga".

  • Display the Find Command screen, locate calculate-geotechnical-attributes and click Run.

The Calculate Geotechnical Attributes screen is used to calculate the average spacing, fracture frequency and define input objects grouping and output parameters and Rock Quality Domain (RQD) for loaded planes objects.

To analyse plane relationships and assess failure domains:

  1. Load plane data, or generate planes from loaded string data (see string-to-plane ("cstp")).

  2. Display the Calculate Geotechnical Attributes screen.

  3. In Selected Objects, check the planes data objects to include in the plane analysis. You can select more than one object, but at least one must be selected.

  4. Use Group by Field to select a data attribute to calculate geotechnical attributes using key field values, or select the default None to calculate geotechnical attributes across all selected planes.

Note: The key field must exist in all selected planes objects.

  5. Choose Output options:

    • Check Output Window to display calculated results in the Output control bar.

    • Check Histogram to create a histogram chart sheet in the Plots window. See Creating and Editing Histograms.

    • Check Output to Point Data Object to output a Points data object either within the Current Object or as a New Object. If you output point data, you can also choose how geotechnical values are stored within it:

      • Average Spacing – Choose or type the name of the field in which to store spacing results (default: SPACING).

      • Fracture Frequency – Define the field to store fracture frequency results.

      • RQD – Define the field to store RQD results.

  6. Click Run to calculate results, or if Output to Point Data Object was selected, display the Confirm point location screen. Use this screen to:

    • Either specify or pick the Coordinates of the generated results.

    • Preview the Average Spacing, Fracture Frequency and RQD preliminary results.

    • Click OK to generate the output point file and other outputs.

You are returned to the Calculate Geotechnical Attributes screen.

  7. Click Cancel to close the Calculate Geotechnical Attributes screen.
