VR Object Type Properties Dialog

Creating and configuring VR Object Types for use in the VR window.

VR Object Type Properties

To access this dialog use one of the following:

  • In the Sheets control bar, 3D folder, right-click the VR Object Types sub-folder, select New.

  • In the Sheets control bar, 3D folder, VR Object Types sub-folder, right-click an object, select Properties.

The Object Type Properties dialog is used to create and define settings for a category of objects i.e. an object type.

An object cannot be added to the 3D window unless it belongs to a given object type.

Field details:

Name: The name of the object type.

Model: select a model or enter the name and path directly into this field.

Scale: increase (>1) or decrease (<1) the size of the object model.

Sound: click the browse button to select a sound file (.wav).

Attenuation: light source attenuation is affected by the Attenuation value;  suggested values are:

  • 10 = weak - torch

  • 100 = bright - headlight

  • 500 = intense - searchlight

Lights: double-click to add or edit an object light source.

Shading: the following options are available:

  • Wireframe: display the object as wireframe triangles.

  • Flat: display each polygon as a single shade, and the edges between them look hard.

  • Smooth: display each polygon with a shade of the color that may vary across the surface, blurring the edges between the polyons and making the objects look more round. The best place to see the effect is to look at the same settings in the surface Properties dialog (right click the surface object's name in the Sheets control bar (VR  Window sub-folder) and select Properties.

Viewpoint Offset: offset the Inside View position from the model reference point (often at center of base) by defining offsets along the X, Y and Z object axes.

Movement: the following options are available:

  • Max. speed: set the maximum speed (km/hr) of an object when controlled by user or during simulation.

  • Max. acceleration: set the maximum acceleration of an object when controlled by user or during simulation.

  • Max. turn rate: set the maximum turning rate (degrees/second at maximum speed) of an object when controlled or during simulation - .

  • Max. climb: set the maximum angle (degrees) that an object is permitted to pitch when controlled or during simulation.

  • Max. roll: set the maximum angle (degrees) that an object is permitted to roll when controlled or during simulation.

Options: The following additional options are available:

  • Force Upright: force an object to stay upright at all times.

  • Centre Geometry: force an object to be located at the center of its base.

  • Transparent Textures: give an object a transparent texture, useful in creating realistic trees.

  • Double Sided: apply rendering or textures to both the inside and outside of the object's surface .
