Variograms: Format

To access this screen:

  • Display the Variogram screen and select the Format tab.

Configure the variogram chart's Annotation, Axes, Grid, Comments, Color, Legend and Options settings.

Note: These chart settings are used in both the chart in the Plots window and in any instance where it is used as a plot item.

To format the variogram chart:

  1. Display the Variograms screen and load an experimental variogram file. See Variograms: Data Selection.

  2. Select the Format tab.

  3. Define the chart Annotation settings:

    • Title – Accept the default or type in a custom description; select a font size from the drop-down.

    • X Axis – Accept the default or type in a custom description; select a font size from the drop-down.

    • Y Axis – Accept the default or type in a custom description; select a font size from the drop-down.

  4. To define custom axis value ranges, use Custom Axes options:

    • X Axis – Check to allow the definition of custom Minimum, Maximum and Interval settings.

    • Y Axis – As above, for the Y axis.

Note: The default Maximum Y value is calculated automatically so that all variogram points are displayed on the chart.  When a variogram is added or removed the Maximum Y value may change accordingly. Defined custom axes vales do not change when variograms are added or removed.

  5. Choose Grid formatting options for each chart axis

    • X Axis – Select a linestyle and colour.

    • Y Axis

Tip: Hide the grid lines by setting the grid line colour the same as the chart background colour.

  6. Check Add Comments to add text to the top of the chart with Apply.

  7. Choose Colour settings:

    • Chart Background – Select a chart background colour.

    • Fixed Variogram Colour – Select this option to display all variograms with the same fixed colour, then select a colour.

    • Variogram Colour Cycle – Select this option to display the variograms with a colour cycle, then define a cycle number.

Note: By default, the Variogram Color Cycle option is selected and colours are assigned to the experimental variograms using a cycle of length 8.  This means that the 1st and 9th variograms are the same colour, the 2nd and 10th are the same colour, and so on.  The length of the cycle can be varied between 8 and 64 based on the standard colour sequence.

Note: Another method of assigning a colour and symbol to a variogram is to right click the variogram from the list on the Data Selection tab and select Edit Properties.

  8. Click OK to add a new chart to the target Plot sheet.

  9. Save your project.
