GVP Folder

An explanation of the menu options available

GVPs

The active 3D window folder of the Sheets control bar is used to set view properties for all loaded 3D data, access object-specific properties, and load/unload data from memory.

Two menu variations exist, depending on where you right-click. Right clicking a top-level folder displays the Top Level Menu, and right-clicking an item within it shows the Item Context menu:

Your application supports the display of Visualizer Replay Files (also known as 'GVP files'). When loaded, all the usual forms of navigation (free flight, Look At mode etc) are available, as is the possibility of viewing the data in 3D stereo.

If animation data is present in the loaded file, you will be able to access a Sequence Controls option from the supplied menu.

GVP files contain limited data, intended purely for visual reproduction, so placement within the virtual environment may not match the coordinate system of the original data. Additionally, the representations no longer have any links to original data attributes, so no data interrogation is possible. However, it is possible to "break apart" the GVP file into its constituent parts (of which it creates copies, leaving the original GVP data untouched). This functionality is available by right-clicking a GVP file in the 3D folder and selecting Convert to Data Objects.

GVP Top Level Menu:

  • Double-clicking the GVP folder displays an Open File dialog, allowing you to select a Visualizer Replay File for import.

Right-clicking the GVP folder shows the following menu options:

Load: displays an Open File dialog, allowing you to select a Visualizer Replay File for import.

Show All: enable the display of all 3D items held within the selected folder.

Hide All: disable the display of all 3D items held within the selected folder.

Delete All: remove all loaded GVP project items from your scene - note that this will not delete the files from disc.

GVP Item Menu:

Right-clicking an item in the Points folder shows the following menu options:

GVP File Properties: allows you to set up properties for the selected GVP file, using the GVP Properties dialog.

Look At: automatically positions the 'camera' to show the selected point(s).

Sequence Controls: if the selected data file contains sequencing data, this option displays the Sequence Control dialog to play a sequencing animation, and set animation scope limits.

Convert to Data Objects: selecting this option creates standard data objects (wireframes, strings etc.) from the data encoded in the GVP file. These will then appear as items in the Sheets control bar. This can be useful where the GVP files need to be edited, but the original data has been lost. Once created, the new Data Objects can be manipulated as any other 3D object, including the functions provided by the Data Object Manager (activate the Data ribbon and select Manage Objects).

Delete GVP File: removes the current GVP file from your project. Note that the file is not removed from disk.
