Zooming and Scaling

When viewing plots in the Main Canvas you can magnify a selected area of the plot. This can be done in the following ways.

  • Zooming into a region – Zoom into a rectangular region of the plot.
  • Scaling axes – Increase or decrease the axis scale.
  • Zooming in on an axis – Set new minimum and maximum values on an axis.

All zooming operations allow for panning once zoomed in by clicking and holding left-click within the plot and dragging the mouse to pan the zoomed plot an equivalent distance.

Zooming into a Region

Zooming into a region allows you to magnify a selected rectangular area of the plot.

Tip: You can press the Esc key at any time to cancel the zoom operation.

  1. Display a plot in the Main Canvas.
  2. Click Zoom In on the Home Menu.
  3. Click and drag over the Main Canvas to select an area to zoom in on.
  4. Click and drag when zoomed in to pan around the plot.
  5. Click Zoom Out on the Side toolbar to return to the full plot.

Scaling Axes

You can scale the X- and Y-axes of a plot by clicking and dragging under the X-axis or left of the Y-axis.

When data or graph elements extend beyond the visible area of the plot, an arrow displays to the right of the X-axis and top of the Y-axis. You can pan around the plot by clicking and dragging when it is zoomed in.

Double-click left of the Y-axis or under the X-axis to return to the default scale.

Note: Scaling works the same way for plots with multiple Y-axes. However, you need to double-click or drag on the right side of the right hand Y-axis.

Zooming in on an axis

Zooming in on an axis allows you to magnify a part of the X- or Y-axis, and then pan along the axis. It is useful if there is too much information on an axis to easily read the graph.

  1. Display a plot in the Main Canvas.
  2. Click Zoom In on the Home Menu.
  3. Click and drag a rectangle on the Main Canvas beneath the X-axis or left of the Y-axis.

Note: Make sure to only drag the rectangle outside of the plot boundaries where the axis values display. Selecting anything inside of the plot zooms in both axes.

  4. Click and drag when zoomed in to pan around the plot.
  5. Double-click left of the Y-axis or under the X-axis to return both axes to the default scale.
